>>49 I'm perfectly comfortable staying where I am. I don't give a shit about an Anon who can't put their name up to talk to me. This doesn't need to be here, as I keep saying. Why can't these be on Random? Why can't people just talk to a therapist instead of a bunch of people they don't know who can't really give any advice past, "Do what you think is right,"? For that matter, most of these peoples' problems can be solved by just talking to someone who actually cares what they have to say, instead of posting it to begin with and getting 20 responses saying about the same thing.
If your problem is really monumental (someone is about to kill themselves right fucking now and you have no way of contacting police, an adult, or literally any other person who may be able to do something) then go ahead and post it on a message board for the whole world to see. That's not what this is used for, though; it's used for people to talk about how crappy their day was or how they think something bad in their life should be changed by the Dollars intervention (once again, OP). Maybe you really do want some advice on whether to sell your home, buy a van, and travel the country selling hand-made Yo-Yo's, but once again, that is something better suited for people who give a shit. Unless you have a reason to care about someone's opinion, anyone who has one different than yours is something you probably won't listen to (there was a topic about boarding schools like that not long ago).
The argument of semi-privacy (I guess that's what Anon was trying to quote at me) is ridiculous as well, considering it's a public board anyone can access. You're cutting off some people, yes, but that's the same logic of posting your introduction in the introduction board so only a part of the site is able to see you're here. Random is more popular, but don't you want more people to see your problem so more people can give you advice on it? Who are you trying to hide your tales of abuse from, exactly, that you would need an entire different board that's still as easily accessible as the one you're running from? Let's not forget how stuff that should go in Random that someone has managed to classify under "Personal" for any number of reasons spills over in here, and the existence of this board hasn't stopped people from talking about their problems on Main and Random.
This board is not being used for what it should be used for, thanks to people like OP taking advantage of it. Random did the job fine and had many more people to contribute to resolutions for problems than just the ones who frequent Personal. All this board has done is give people an easier space to troll in (as some of us still consider this board as untainted ground, and would therefore never have people who lie about their child dying from a not really poisonous bug bite) and encourage people to spread personal information they shouldn't, prompting a response on Main, I believe, telling people (like children who just learned how to internet) not to give out their friend's email address to a bunch of random people on a site. The whole thing is more trouble than it's worth for the most part.
