Climate change is a bigger issue than ever before, with last year's coral bleaching event impacting two thirds of the entire Great Barrier Reef. The aftermath of that disaster is here, with over 90% of the northern reef dead, rotting in its place.

And what is our government doing about this? Building an enormous coal mine that rips straight through the reef.

That recently spilled into the wetland around it

a wetland home to over a thousand endangered bird species.

GG Liberal government.

Our gracious Prime Minister isn't even funding renewable energy, but pushing for the use of more "Clean Coal"

I could RANT about this ALL DAY.
Please, just kill me now.

I don't even have to link to an article, just google "Adani Coal Mine" or "Great Barrier Reef Bleaching" for more info.

It's sad to see these types of things happen to the world because of human interaction. I agree that enough isn't be doing to protect the reefs. I feel as if one of the reasons it has been allowed to get to this point is because more people don't even really know that it's happening or don't realize on how large of a scale it's occurring at.

The way I see it,this isn't global warming killing the reef...this is Australia killing the reef.maybe they should clean up their tourism and fishing industry's and see if that makes a difference? And maybe scientists should examine the globe for NEW locations to plant coral reefs at where they would thrive?Places with better temperatures and environments suited for the coral. It's possible that the Great Barrier Reef simply became TOO great and is now in a population die-off....Kinda like the Fall of the Roman Empire.

I agree that Australia isn't helping at all... But the cause of the bleaching is global warming, because the higher water temperature causes the algae in the coral to become endangering to the coral's health, so the coral "spits out" the damaging algae... However, as the algae provides the coral with the nutrients it requires to survives (and also it's colour, thus the term "bleaching"),the coral goes into a "starvation mode", where it can only survive for a short period of time until the algae returns to being safe.

So... maybe the first course of action to saving the Great Barrier Reef would be to NOT build the giant as Indian Coal Mine RIGHT NEXT to the reef... but alas, our Prime Minister only cares for the mining industry and not the future of this earth.

This is the same guy that brought "Clean Coal" into a courtroom for evidence.
Sorry, I can't find the article on this "Clean Coal" event.
