Black Lives Matter, and Why It's Important. (16)

Due to the recent shootings in Dallas, I've noticed a lot of people condemning Black Lives Matter, and I think I have to shot this piece of news so it can be discussed.

Black Lives Matter does not approve of violence. Similar to the civil rights movement in the past, protests and rallies were MEANT to be peaceful. However, in every movement, there will be some people who use violence. Killing anyone is not acceptable, even if your purpose is to make strides in the movement for equality.

since white good officers died the march of the black lives matter got overshadowed by the incident, i think it is happening just so that people would fear for the change and silence the good doers. the media is playing a huge role in this.

I think that the "back lives matter" movement should merge with the "all lives matter" movement so that people can't attribute the name towards negative connotations and so that it will be understood unanimously that they are for equality.

Not happening. The point of every political movement like that (LGBT, BLM, etc.) is to emphasise that they're the most oppressed groups of people in the whole world (in America, really). Merging with All Lives Matter will de-emphasise that point, so no.

I agree. It should be changed to "all lives matter", not just black lives matter. Yes, black lives matter, but so does everyone of different ethnicities, religions or political views- All people should be treated equally.

All lives do matter yes, that's obvious, but the point of #blacklivesmatter is to raise awareness that right now in America the statistically based fact is that african americans (and people of color) face a higher rate of unjust incarceration, racial profiling, systematic racism and most recently police assault and killings. Saying that all lives matter in the midst of what is currently going on in the US is like showing up to a marathon walk for cancer and complaining that there isn't enough support for AIDS

Selective truth-telling. You forgot to mention that a large percentage of criminals are black people.

I acknowledge that the majority of documented criminals in the US are african american but again BLM hones in on the racial profiling and systematic racism facet of the police force killings that have been taking place at an alarming rate this year, regardless of if these people are criminals or not it is statistically proven that african americans (men in particular) are more likely to be executed by police officers than their white counterparts. I definitely think that the BLM movement has some validity.

Statistics only tell you half the story.
Higher criminal rates within the black community obviously is going to affect the bias within the police force, but does it get mentioned?
Systematic racism and such are real problems, but the blame doesn't lie solely on the white people.
BLM keeps screaming "We're the victims!" But refused to tell their faults to their own community. Whatever validity they have is overshadowed by their attitude.

I get what you're trying to say here, but the way you've worded it makes it come across as victim-blaming. It doesn't matter how high the crime rates are within black communities, the police aren't supposed to be biased against any racial community for any reason, and if they are that's the very definition of racial profiling.

Whether or not I'm blaiming them is up to you to decide.
Police are also humans, and most of them haven't gone any psychological trainings to surpress internal biases. Racial profilings are no good, but it comes naturally. If the criminal rate within the black community goes down, racial profiling will eventually go away by itself. And the opposite might also be true, unlikely as it seems.
BLM might have been wondeful at some point, but the message I've been hearing lately is that blacks = victims, and police = oppressors.

No, BLM doesn't matter, because prejudice will still exist and might grow stronger within individuals.
