Earthquakes in Ecuador and Japan. Are they related? (4)

On Thursday and Saturday morning, Southern Japan and Equador were hit with a massive 4.5 earthquake that shattered bridges, and ruined households. Unending mud slides covered already-crumbled buildings and left many people missing, if not already dead. Aftershocks in Equador were felt 300 miles away from the destination. So are these two massive earthquakes related to one another or not?

They are unlikely related as they don't share the same tectonic plates.

Actually, it's called the Forest Moon of Ecuador. That's a common mistake.
