This has been bothering me for some time now. Even though I'll be graduating from a public high school soon, my sister is still attending the place and, ugh.

Basically, Bruce Rauner, the governor of the state of IL plans on cutting off $79 million from CPS. CPS is already a suffering system, and cutting more money from this public education provider is messed up. I was discussing this in class with a teacher, where I found out more information about this. I live in an urban area, where kids need this education. In fact, this whole planet needs it.

Where is that $79 million going? To charter schools, more "successful ones with smarter kids".

As a difference, from my teacher I found that each CPS student is worth $1,400. Each non-public charter school student gets $8,000.

There are many families suffering from some form financial crisis, and on top of that, there's the IL MAP grants for college students. Just $2,360+ gone, taken away.

College students, if you know the struggle with money, you have to understand THIS.

If you guys have more ideas on this, please share. I just feel that undermining education for students is wrong, but I don't want to the close minded when I think about these things.

This isn't helping CPS either:

Ah, this is BS! The entire system is fucked. As a Chicagoan and a democrat and an intelligent human, this is just wrong. Seriously, who's electing these idiots, 'le~?!

Honestly it's nonsense. I'm afraid that there probably isn't much people outside of Chicago could do. Really the only thing people in Chicago could do would be to vote for people on the school board who share this view.

Honestly it's usually any public school that gets the short end of the stick.

At this point, most of the people at the top don't care anymore about what race you are, now it's just whether you own enough money to bribe them or not.

This is STUPID! Can't they even out the money or something?

I know, pretty annoying right? I used to live in Chicago, so I understand the situation with all the money... It's just getting to be too much...

Best of luck ^^ - Pandora

Thats some pretty dumb logic, the kids who having a hard time learning get less money to do so.

Is there something we can do about this? Has the act been passed yet? ill be honest I dont know anything about politics. But if enough people rally against this wouldnt it make them think twice about doing this?

Actually, I would love if we can do something. I am in a CPS school, and honestly, our books aren't the best, and we are getting less and less resources. Also less teachers, which they are firing so we can save more money. Should we get together and try to find a solution? Perhaps a riot? Well not a riot, but you get it.

Yeah... something tells me that a riot would only serve to persuade them to do this MORE often. Peaceful protest is the way to go. Get a permit from the city to march if you get enough people together. Sadly, I'm in California so I wouldn't be able to participate. I'm a Republican and I think this is messed up lol
