Apple VS. FBI (21)

1 Name: s2keddic : 2016-02-19 09:55 ID:7ivVKsEF [Del]

SO as many of you have heard, there is some huge ruckus going on in the United States' federal law enforcement concerning the Federal Bureau attempting to force Apple to create a new version of iOS that would give them the ability to circumnavigate encrypted and locked Apple devices. Apple, along with many companies that manufacture and produce mobile devices, have been bullied on this topic for years, but there's talk of the FBI finally winning, due to the circumstances (terrorist attacks which prompted the need for the software in the first place), which would give them access to anyone's data, personal, corporate, or other.
I myself am an Android guy, but this kind of 'need' to access my data or others' in simply unacceptable, and I'd consider it a violation of personal privacy rights, as this not only affects Apple, but any and all companies that have any sort of data encryption on their products. I know this opinion part shouldn't be included in the news section of this site, but I feel what's going on is unjust, and we should fight it. I'd just like to urge everyone to take a stand and support Apple and the other companies involved on this pressing issue, as it could mean a huge change in the legal system of America, and not for the better. One or two people, regardless of their horrible acts, do not constitute, nor validify, the invasion of our personal privacy. Think, really ponder, about how the future would be if this kind of thing became the norm. We're the Dollars, we should stand in defense of our rights, and those of the people around us.

Hey no offense but the rules specifically states to add a link to an article or some type of media evidence when you're posting news. You should post the link or evidence in the comments.

Do they even privacy? This IS a violation of personal rights. They shouldn't be able to do this!

Sure, I'll support Apple on this one. This shouldn't even be a discussion though, we have rights for a reason.

Because everyone seem to forget this, WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO PRIVACY WHATSOEVER!!!! The constitutions (and the amendments) give us no privacy. So the government cant break a law that dose not exist. Also, the government would basically use a search engine to find key words like 'bomb' or 'allahu akbar'(Arabic for 'god is great'). They don't care about your browser history. Even if they did look at it why should they care, i personally don't mind the feds looking at my Google searches for 'Phoenix smog clouds' and 'Pokemon HM locations'.

I heard that Apple has actually done that type of thing before, but in private without telling people publicly like this. Might just be a rumor, but I trust the person who told me. Eh, idk

Yeah I am an Apple user so I know I won't be updating my phone anytime soon :|

Doesn't Apple iOS Update automatically?
I do agree with Apple's refusal in this matter. I can see why FBI would want to get into that phone but the risks are greater then the gain.

Also, I think that the FBI is probably breaking a law, like Invasion of Privacy. And if the info gets into the wrong hands!!

>>11 Nope, Apple's iOS doesn't update automatically, for better or worse.
>>12
The government would be going against their own Constitution, by forcing a company to install exploitable backdoors, but technically not breaking any laws once they have made it a law.

They say that this case won't establish a precedent, but that is doubtful. Soon, it won't be just Apple, and backdoors will be established in all devices so that the FBI can come and go as it pleases.

Unfortunately, that's how it is. Try to stick to open-source stuff as much as possible. Safest alternative right now TBH. If you know how to jailbreak your own device, that's pretty useful too. But that's why I keep the least amount of personal info on my phone, even though I use Android and not iOS.

>>14 Seems unlikely they would stop after Apple. After all next time it could be someone with a different phone.
>>15 What's jailbreaking? Never heard of it before.

>>16 Look at these links:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/243139/15_apps_and_tweaks_that_may_convince_you_to_jailbreak_your_iphone.html

Although you probably shouldn't try to jailbreak unless you really know what you're doing, or else you're gonna destroy your phone lol. There's a debate whether jailbreaking allows more control over privacy or whether it makes it easier to be hacked.

I don't think it is as much as we don't have privacy, the reason this is such a big deal is that the FBI is asking Apple to make a software in order to hack into their own product, Apple and many other companies are saying no because if they make this one bit of software, even if it's a one time deal, the chances of it being leaked out are to high. Those who have passcodes on their Apple product are just slightly safer rather than those who don't.
