On Wednesday, December 9, Akiyuki Nosaka, author of the renowned book 'Grave of the Fireflies' died at the age of 85 years. He was found unconscious in his home due to cardiac arrest, he was taken to the clinic but his death was confirmed at 22:30.

Grave of the Fireflies has been one of the most important works of Japanese culture and also of the most iconic films of anime. It portrays the life of two brothers who give their all to survive in a post-war scenario, after the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Akiyuki also based on own experiences in creating this novel, as he lost several family members in this tragic event, and one of them was her younger sister.

Studio Ghibli Isao Takahata and undertook to adapt the work to a 1988 animated film, creating a cult anti-war film.

Sad to here the news. The Ghibli movie was very beautiful and sad. I still remember how mcuh I cried. I have two younger sisters and I just can't imagine loosing any one of them. Hope he rest in peace.

He will be missed that movie really opened my eyes to the affects WWII had on Japan so sad...
