Another hot topic bout monotheistic religion. Christian this time.
Parents feel that religion studies at school should include atheism and humanism, but the british department of education secretary refuses to reinforce this idea and undermines the importance of said topic.

Well, I dunno about England, but in Germany it already includes Atheism, humanism as well as other religions. And were completely fine, so I wonder what is the big deal in other countries?

Just my opinion, but I think it's because monotheistic religions are pretty shallow.
They tell you that you have to be good but don't teach you what it means to be good.
Hence, denies all other teachings branded as bad. Inflexible.

I wish that Atheism was in the U.S. Social Studies Course... Too bad it will never happen...

Here's the thing though: there is nothing to study in Atheism. There is no history or art that goes into it like Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and yes even Christianity. There are no aspects in it. There are no Atheist holidays. There are no beliefs. There wouldn't be anything to learn. I know that sounds harsh, but that is just the truth.

Is that so?
There are many philosophies affiliated with atheism and humanism which I think are profound and worth learning at least once.

Wouldn't that be taught in philosophy then?
Besides, it's about studying and respecting different religions. Atheism isn't really a religion and not exactly complicated.
They tell us what it is, along with being agnostic, and that's really all the detail people need.

Did you read the article?
It IS a philosophy lesson about the views of various religion on life.
It's not complicated but doesn't mean it should be ignored.
Btw, they also ignore humanism in addition to atheism.
