I just found out a few moments ago that President Obama is taking a trip to Alaska. During which he has announced the plans to visit Delani National Park and rename Mount McKinley. He announced this morning, just before the departure for his 3 day trip that he and his administration have decided to rename the tallest peak in North America from Mount McKinley, named after former President William McKinley, to Mount Delani. Why he believes this is a good idea is unknown but many states, especially Ohio where President McKinley was from, have made it clear they do not support this decision. I feel like things are not going to go well in the near future, because of this. Any thoughts or opinions on the matter?
Here is an article on the subject if you want to know more. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/alaska-bound-obama-faces-backlash-on-mt-mckinley-renaming/ar-AAdMsM7?ocid=SK2EDHP
I suppose if he constantly did this without hearing the people's voices he'd be in the wrong. But i still dont get why people give a hoot to changing names anyway. Pointless as fuck.
He is simply returning it to its original name out of respect for the Native Alaskans there. Previous presidents, including the one who the mountain was forcibly renamed after, have more or less ignored them up until now and don't deserve to have their name there in the first place.
