Flesh-Eating Bacteria in Florida (6)

1 Name: Panther : 2015-07-11 09:19 ID:FUxf2hMk [Del]

There's another flesh-eating bacteria thread, but it was from 2012 and not specific to Florida.

This summer (it's already July- wish I found the Dollars sooner), a strain of bacteria was found spreading through water in Florida and Georgia, which is why I think this is so important. Many tourists come to Florida to see the beach, and especially during summer, the beaches are probably going to be more crowded than ever.

The bacteria once blinded a woman who was participating in a mud run back in June (this is in Texas): http://www.foxnews.com/health/2015/06/24/texas-woman-left-blind-after-contracting-bacteria-during-mud-run/

I have evidence that this bacteria has KILLED people:

It's not just Florida, I think it encompasses all of the hot, beachside places in the USA. However, I haven't heard anything about California or Hawaii, surprisingly. Maybe it's just the parts of the USA near the Gulf and the Atlantic?

The reason I say Florida in particular is because of the size of our coastline that attracts a lot of people. However, if you live in a state where you planned to go to the beach, please be safe and stay out of the water. It's not worth the risk.

Update: I found more stuff

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/watch-flesh-eating-bacteria-summer/story?id=32051761 There's a video along with an article. Apparently it's in California as well as other states, and maybe I'm being subjective here, but it doesn't sound like it's gotten as bad as the South yet.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/07/florida-flesh-eating-bacteria_n_7234014.html it's a story about a guy who lost a leg in a night due to the bacteria. It's alarming how quickly this thing spreads.

Oh I heard about that, something about how it enters through open cuts.

Eyeballs, too, since that's an entrance to the inside of the body.

OMG. Best to bring goggles but what about the mouth and nose? Wear a freaking fish bowl?

Well, just don't breathe in the water or open your mouth! I don't do that when I swim, anyways. If I did, I would probably be dead or get a mouth full of fish urine.
