ISTANBUL -- Thousands of men, women and children gathered in Istanbul's historic Taksim Square on Sunday for the annual gay pride festival only to face water cannons, rubber bullets and tear gas.
"Where are you, my love?" sang one group of LGBT rights activists, waving rainbow flags and holding hands, swaying to the popular Turkish love song. "I am here, my love!"
Moments later, Turkish riot police aimed a water cannon into a crowd of people (including this reporter) sending them running for safety as water pounded them from behind. Belongings flew off with the force of the water as people struggled to stay on their feet -- a scene that caused several young police officers to laugh openly, mocking the drenched protesters.
It was just one of many assaults Sunday against peaceful gay pride participants, reportedly the first time in 13 years that the annual festival was forcefully dispersed.

The significance of that shirt in the middle of running from riot police in a homophobic society: "Normal people scare me"

OMG this LGBT nonsense really has to stop, even in the US. They got the rights they were fighting for(which is great) but now they're complaining about something else -__-

>>3 I think you've gone a bit blind, friend.
Would you say the same if it was a post about another woman getting killed because she wanted to go to school and recieve an education? Would you say something akin to "this women's rights nonsense really has to stop, even in the US"?
So informing the public of people being harassed, gang-raped, and murdered because of who they are is "nonsense" and "complaining about something else"....

Wanting equal marriage wasn't nonsense or a complaint. Just like wanting equal rights wasnt nonsense or a complaint for black people and women when their rights were degraded and their voices suppressed. These were human rights issues, and to be honest, not long ago the scene you see here, this story written here, this was happening to gay and black people in the U.S., for simply being someone they can not change.

This article is an example of how far we've come , and not only to be grateful about where we are, but to also have an empathetic enough heart to aspire to help/support those in need.

All the countries who have made gay marriage legal are in support of gay rights as basic human rights, and encourage other nations to follow.
Just like the white participants of the March on Washington, empathy is how we can change the world for the better.

Not spouting nonsense and complaints like here >>3.

>>3 If you don't want the LGBT community to "complain" what do you want them to do, sit down and take it? If other groups can fight for their rights then they can too. If blacks hadn't done what they did in the Civil Rights Movement, I doubt my parents would be allowed to be together. Why? Because a black man wasn't supposed to love a white woman. My dad would be sitting in prison or dead right now if none of that happened. I have an uncle who went to prison for dating a white woman back when blacks weren't considered equal.

Basically, if none of that happened, blacks would be told to love only blacks and it'd be the same rule for any other race in America. It's the same with the LGBT community. They shouldn't be told who they can and can't marry because of gender or what's considered "natural" to someone else. Let them fight for their rights. There's no real reason why we shouldn't allow it. After all, picture yourself in their shoes. How would you feel being denied any of your rights?
