SEOUL (AFP) - North Korea says it has developed a vaccine that is "very effective" in treating Mers, Ebola and Aids, the state mouthpiece KCNA reported, as well as a range of other diseases that modern medicine is yet to find a cure for.

The drug, known as Kumdang-2, is reportedly able to treat everything from Aids to tuberculosis and cancer, as well as "harm from the use of computers" and morning sickness, according to the drug's website.

The isolated country's news agency KCNA is notorious for making hyperbolic claims about North Korea's achievements - from scientific breakthroughs to the sporting prowess of its leaders - and has previously trumpeted the efficacy of the drug.

Developed by North Korea's Pugang Pharmaceutic Company - and promoted under the tag line "Everyone has the right to be healthy" - the vaccine is made of extracts from ginseng with the injection of rare earth elements, KCNA said

Curing AIDS in itself is a huge feat. Throw in all the other diseases they claim it is used for and it starts to become even more fictional. For a vaccine, or drug, to do this it wouldn't be a vaccine at all. Instead of promoting the natural response of the immune system it would have to affect the human cells.

Due to the nature of AIDS it evolves and mutates itself quite rapidly, so no drug works very long that effects the virus itself. However years ago there was a kind of successful treatment of AIDS, which was a drug that mutated the white blood cells. It only changed one, of the two, recepters on the cell that the virus uses to invade. This only limits the ways the virus invades and is only half a cure for it.

Now mix in all these other diseases that use different ways to invade the cells and it becomes nearly impossible. The only logical conclusion, with present day technology, would be that this drug doesn't promote the natural response of the immune system, but promotes the mutations of human cells. It wouldn't just mutate one type of cell, but multiple, due to the varying pathogens.

So it is could be a false story, or a propaganda piece. Unless they truly are using some method to haphazardly mutate multiple parts of the human body.
