Human waste left by climbers on Mount Everest has become a problem that is causing pollution and threatening to spread disease on the world’s highest peak, the chief of Nepal’s mountaineering association said Tuesday.

The more than 700 climbers and guides who spend nearly two months on Everest’s slopes each climbing season leave large amounts of faeces and urine, and the issue has not been addressed, Ang Tshering told reporters.

He said Nepal’s government needs to get the climbers to dispose of the waste properly so the mountain remains pristine.

Hundreds of foreign climbers attempt to scale Everest during Nepal’s mountaineering season, which began this week and runs through May. Last year’s season was canceled after 16 local guides were killed in an avalanche in April.

This reminds me of this article,
http://sometimes-interesting.com/2011/06/29/over-200-dead-bodies-on-mount-everest/

There are a lot of frozen corpses and they are used by the climbers as post marks

(They should bury the poo, tho)

Not even the damn mountains are safe, damn fucking humans. There is literally 7 billion or so of us worldwide, and its growing higher and faster by the minute or second. There gonna have to be a cap or limiter, esle this planet may not be able to sustain us.

>>3 The thing is, the are certain areas of the world where people are forced to stay together. Because of shit like borders and foreign relations, within some countries you need a good reason to so much as leave. That's kind of the explanation for all the illegal marriages that were going on in China and India.

If we went back into the day where we were all wanderers of the earth (but still using technology), certain areas would not be reaching that cap as soon. Also, if certain countries offered livable wages for jobs, then families could afford the plane ticket to live overseas. I always felt blessed after my return trips home from China. So much open space in Georgia. Lots of woods and open fields, and empty sidewalks.

>>4 :/ Agreeable, that in the country, less develop areas are more free, like the farms in the US, or even open fields with nothing, maybe cattle and such, and
I can really be close-minded when it comes to humans and their system and society.
But hey, i dont deal in poltics or read the news much, not much time to deal with them anyway.

Still guys, we humans shouldn't search a place where we can be alone. We are a species and should try to live together without hurting each other. I know that humans can be cruel. Still to flee from the challenge of living in a society to an empty place, is only something cowards do.

Hmm, it is true humans are a a species that survive in groups, but climbing a mountain like the Everest, or a simple farmland/rural area with not much people, doesn't mean they are fleeing from the 'challenge'. Since i know many people enjoy the small breaks in their life, no matter how short or long it is. A simple holiday to somewhere you never been before can be a different challenge in itself, while talking a group of friends with you to enjoy the trip.

>>7 So in the end, going to these lonely places doesn't mean they are cowards who don't face the challenge of living in a society. It is simply a break from the city life and enjoy the natural earth while maybe challenging yourself with a difficult hiking route or climbing route.

I thought this thread was about too much crap left on a mountain, not human populations and reasons why humans stay in groups :c
