Late Friday, liberal activist and prominent opposition leader to Putin's government was assassinated in a drive by shooting. Nemstov was considered to be "one of the loudest voices condemning Russia’s sharp turn toward confrontation with the West in the past year." Over Ekho Moskvy radio, he described Putin's “mad, aggressive and deadly policy of war against Ukraine” to be the cause of Russia's current economic crisis. In a government where the opposition or activists alike are generally imprisoned or exiled, this act of murder, practically at the very door of the Kremlin, caused shock amongst the people of Russia. In outrage, thousands marched in central Moscow in protest, while the opposition bluntly points the finger at Putin, accusing him of being behind the incident. "The shooting came a day before a rally at which opposition leaders had been hoping to breathe fresh life into their cause. Nemtsov was one of the main organizers."

Meanwhile, Putin and his party claims that it's actually a conspiracy; the assissnation was a plot to put the Kremlin in a negative light. So far, little is known about the shooters or their whereabouts.

"More recently, Nemtsov had been working on a report that he said would prove that Russian soldiers were fighting alongside pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine, where a bloody 11-month-conflict has claimed nearly 5,800 lives. The Kremlin has hotly denied any direct involvement, which Russian opinion polls suggest would be deeply unpopular.

He had angered the government two years ago when he charged that billions of dollars had been stolen from funds designated for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, his home town. He blamed “Putin’s friends” for the alleged embezzlement, which he described as 'a real threat to Russia’s national security.' "

He sounded like a real good guy who actually cared about the people...

Also yesterday (27/28.02 - night of friday/saturday) Mikhaylo Chechetov, a protagonist of Viktor Yanukovich's politic jumped from his apartment's window, due to this incident (I think it was more like he was pushed out by somebody but it's no up to me to judge this).
Anyway...
>>2 Those are exactly my feelings. I'm sad that a man that sounded to care for what is going on was killed. He was also a follower of a true democracy in Russia.

This might sound kind of corny, but there's a quote that comes to mind about this. Maybe a Hendrix quote, or older...Don't remember exactly...
"When the power of love will overcome the love of power, the world will truly know peace"
