Tamir Rice: US police kill boy, 12, carrying replica gun (19)

A 12-year-old boy has died after being shot by police in the US city of Cleveland, after carrying what turned out to be a replica gun in a playground.

Police say an officer fired two shots at Tamir Rice after he failed to obey an order to raise his hands.

He did not make any verbal threats nor point the gun towards the officers.

A lawyer representing his family said it would be carrying out its own investigation into what happened.

The incident comes as a grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri, will decide imminently whether to indict a police officer in the fatal shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.

yet another sad incident in American where the police could of used non-lethal way to tackle the situation, but went for the lethal option.

>>2 Yo fuck that! It sounds like that the officer needed to defend himself, yea the boy's gun was fake but I wouldn't run the risk of letting myself get killed. It's really sad that this happened but what would you rather have the officer do? The officer to keep on telling him verbal commands that he kept refusing and just sit there until the suspect shot at him, yea great fucking idea wait for someone to shoot at you first before it's ok to shoot them back.

As it so happens, the verdict did just come in; as we speak, rioters in Ferguson are currently defying Michael Brown's family's requests to demonstrate and protest PEACEFULLY; shots have been fired, rioters in a crowd threw rocks and glass bottles at police until the police responded w. tear gas, and the riots are slowly getting out of control as freaking NEWS CREWS are getting out of the way right now. Where is the peaceful protest? The President himself just spoke, asking for peace and understanding, just as Brown's family did. So where in hell is the peace? The rioters are protesting "on behalf" of Michael Brown, while his family asks them not to riot. Why? Because...reasons. To be frank, I don't know if the grand jury is right or if they are accurate in their decision, and as I see it there is the chance that the verdict can be overturned in the future. But that doesn't seem to be stopping the rioters any. As President Obama asked people to be understanding and move forward after this tragedy, I watched a shot of rioters in Ferguson trying to overturn a police car and saw people running away from where shots were being fired. Where is the freaking peace? Where do you see people moving forward? Oh, they're moving FORWARD, all right, FORWARD here meaning "getting the hell away from these crazy rioters shooting guns in the air." Yea, because THAT'S the kind of moving forward Michael Brown's family wants, or the President is asking for. Not.

>>4 This topic wasn't about that case...

I admit the cop was just doing his job like most people. The kid, in this day and age, was a complete numbskull for possibly taking the orange markings off the gun, and then proceeding to deny the shouts by an officer and grabbing the pellet gun. I understand that most people will most likely point blame to the officer, but personally, the kid is at fault.

I am sorry to know that this child had not lived to understand the world, nor was ever possible to add his personal input to make this world a better place for everyone.

To było okropne... niekompetencja policjanta. Jeśli już musiał strzelić, nie mógł strzelić w rękę? Uniknęłoby się tragedii...

OMG I have heard about this on the news.

That was totally wrong. If he won't drop the weapon, they should like shoot him in the arm, or leg. That usually triggers a fire back from the possible killer. Since the gun wasn't real, that would have never happen.

This is not a solution.

The poor kid didn't even point the gun towards the officer.

>>8 US law doesn't work like that.

If you shoot someone in an arm or leg intentionally, then it's considered your intent was to maim, and that's a big non-no. The safest legal option is to kill the person.

I agree cops should shoot to disable not shoot to kill

Honestly, I think Police officers are losing their right to carry guns. Maybe they should carry tazers, and should only be allowed a gun on certain occasions. Not when they are patrolling a playground.

why the hell was a cop carrying a gun while patroling a playground?

>>13 Because they were following proper procedure, anything can happen and the police better be ready to do what is needed to do in-order to protect the public.

>>13 If there was a person with a knife attacking a kid, you'd be asking 'Why the hell wasn't a cop carrying a gun while patrolling a playground?'.

I cant stand how everyone is making this about racism. like what the hell. he was on play ground a place where the kids play. police saw this and took action. it was a mistake. they kill him. they know they did and regret it. they are saw a person with a gun at playground.
they told him to put his hands up and he didn't and got shot. they were just following what they were train to do. but lets make this about race. it does not fucking matter. he died bitching about is not going to bring him back. so how about maybe learn from this mistake.
just because he is black does not mean anything

Just to clear things up a little, the police officer wasn't patrolling the playground, he was there because someone had called 911 emergency call. That man informed the police that there was a juvenile pointing a gun at people outside, he did mentioned that it might be fake twice, but of course, the police have their own duty, citizens' safety comes first.

Tamir ordered three times to put up his hands, which obviously did not do. His gun was also lacking the bright orange tip that is usually put on such weapons to indicate they're not real guns. Note, airsoft, the brand of the gun that the kid was holding, produces realistic replica guns.

Place yourself in his shoe, the police officer had asked the kid to put his hand up thrice, which if the kid followed, he would still be with his family. The kid had also reached into his waistband when facing the officer, which the police could interpret as a danger.

And about the riot, it was completely ridiculous, you'll really have to wonder if people actually read the news. The family also had asked for peace, but the rioters continued. As from what I have seen from the news, flaming cars and people breaking shops and running out hands full of boxes, many are just taking the chance to destroy stuff and loot from shops.

No. They shouldn't. It's not the cop's fault that they're trained to kill in dangerous situations. Maybe you should teach your children to listen to the cops? And tasers pose a threat to the brain's neurological processes.

>>8

No. The gun didn't have any orange marking and U.S Law states that toy guns are to have colorful appearance or something to distinguish them from real guns. Otherwise, we'd be having massive outbreaks of robbery.

>>17

I heard that the U.S might put marital law if the rioters don't stop. They should just send US troops to control the situation.

If I am correct I believe this was the gun in question in the case. The toy gun had the orange tips and plate removed. I have no idea if they tempered with any of this, but it seemed like the news were rapidly on the case witch would make the first unlikely... The racist problem came from other shootouts that came to frequently on black kids falsely accused of being armed in most cases.
