This took place at my old school. I don't really have much to comment about than what was already said.

Don't American schools have aides for mentally disabled children? Adults that work with them and are trained to deal with these situations? I've had things just like this happen in my classes when I was younger and not once were the police called - the teacher and aide present were always able to handle the situation.
Regardless, I don't understand why they felt it necessary to arrest a ten year old. He threatened to harm himself, sure - but they managed to keep him from doing so for ten minutes. And not allowing him to see his father, who could have no doubt diffused the situation, just makes it look worse.
What a trainwreck.

>>2 because we are a police state and cops have small cocks. Fun fact, my little brother has autism and I watched cops literally fucking tackle and hit him. Fuck pigs, when the time comes, I will do the Lord's work.

Also I have something to say and you don't have to believe me if you think it's false I wont force you. Well, my sister went to that same school that boy did a year before and she brought two knives to Cypress and she was caught a day after and just like the father did our father arrived bit late. But the cop said she didn't have to wear handcuffs because he felt that she didn't need to nor was she was placed on top a car. Just like the boy was she was placed on the Baker Act and taken to the same Behavioral Center in Kissimee.

>>3 Christ. And I thought we had a stigma.
>>7 That doesn't belong in this thread. You can post it seperately as a new (and more importantly sourced) thread under News if you'd like.

I'd like to see a follow-up on this story, if OP or anyone else can provide one.

What happened to the time when we didn't have to call the police for everything and handled the situation like adults. Usually if a kid has scissors in his hand and attempts to harm themselves. They take it away and send the person to the office. Then handle it from there. But now the police have to be involved in every little thing.

I agree with u Tokiomi

As a teen with Asperger's, a high functioning form of autism, I find this treatment of people with special needs disturbing! Heck, because I'm a girl with ASD I don't really get noticed as an Aspie so I often hear people talk about autistics and other special needs in awful ways. Why can't it be accepted that we (special needs people) ARE NOT going to be able to understand things the same way as others and that some of us aren't able to be independent? We are still human beings and we DESERVE OUR HUMAN RIGHTS! Ok rant done

>>16 Thank you I am also a woman diagnosed with Aspergers, and I also find this treatment towards people with these learning curves horrifying. Most of this was started because a few people with different mental problems act out and now Humanity is taking their resentment and fear out against innocent bystanders with the same mental problem, which effect individuals in different ways.

Why can't we deal with these things like adults and not bring in the police for unnecessary situations especially with a kid because obviously police brutality. If we look at the question (The question being treating people with mental effects cruelly.) You'll be met with the same answer. (The answer being treat them everyone else.)

That is very wrong for a police officer to arrest a kid with Autism.

>>21 Actually, it's not really an arrest but more like forcefully taking him to a behavioral center
