On May 23, 2014, a killing spree occurred in Isla Vista, California, United States, starting with a stabbing attack at an apartment, and continuing with a series of drive-by shootings and vehicular attacks near the campus of University of California, Santa Barbara. Elliot Rodger, 22, killed seven people, including himself, and wounded thirteen others. This is the Wikipedia description but as someone who was directly involved in this attack I would like to post this on the dollars website in memorial to those that were killed. It has greatly affected many people and will continue to effect us for years to come. If anyone has anything to say please say it, but remain respectful to the victims and their loved ones who are now suffering without them.

This really freaked me out. I remember first hearing about it here and it scares me knowing I had classmates with similar, if not the same, perspective as Elliot and going to UC Santa Barbara, to boot.

I feel like an asshole...
On this day, I was celebrating my birthday with a whole bunch of friends, ignorant of the world and THIS happened...

I hope those victim to the crime(s) committed are happy wherever they are. I'm not too strong on the whole "heaven after death" aspect of life, however I do hope they're in their own sense of paradise. What happened is never acceptable and I do give those who knew the victims my condolences...

I am a full Christian and I think that there is an amazing paradise waiting foe anyone who believes in God the father and His Son Jesus Christ. I know that these innocent people are in heaven with the Lord. I am praying for all of the families that have lost a love one or a close friend. I understand how you feel.

I guess it must be hard but I hope that those people that past away would rest in peace for some reason

The worst thing about the shootings was the reason behind it,
Elliot Roger
Son of the director of the Hunger Games
Killed all those women
Because he was a virgin.
If this isnt a wake up call the world about extreme mysogyny I dont know what is.

Whenever someone brings up mysogyny in posts about this, the automatic response is, "He was just mentally ill!" like there was absolutely no other factor in all this besides the state of the electrical activity in his brain. There is a whole societal story that goes along with this ._.

>>9 This.

Related picture. I went to look up Durr!! and somehow ended up on a fem blog and saw this, so.

The actual victims of the shooting, both the dead and the injured, were not exclusively female though.

And the thing is that if he were just a misogynist (apparently he was really racist too) and not mentally unwell, he would have been a total douchebag, but most likely not a murderer. If he weren't a misogynist and still mentally unwell he would have ended up killing people but maybe with a slightly different reasoning. So I kind of understand why people put his mental illness first and his hatred of women second as reasons for what he did. Shoving his misogyny and the fact that there are still places that totally encourage it aside entirely is a dick move though.

>>12 Yes, but he basically killed the men because he believed they stole women whom he should have been able to have sex with but couldn't. And I'm not saying he was "just" a misogynist - just that it was another factor playing in to it. If he didn't think he was entitled to have women give him sex just because he's horny in the first place, he probably wouldn't have been under the impression that women were abusing him by refusing to have sex with him, and he in turn wouldn't have felt that other men were at fault for getting women when he was still virgin. The dominoes were already set up for this situation; the fact that he was mentally ill just helped to knock the first one over. Then, the websites he used helped to keep that momentum going. There is a lot more going on here than just, "his brain isn't wired right!" but the mental illness movement keeps trying to discredit it.

All of the current civil movements keep trying to discredit each other. Even with the Sandy Hook shooting down by us, it was like a war between the anti-gunners and the mental illness awareness groups, both trying to have their own causes take the blame to push the points they're making instead of stepping back and looking at the whole picture. It would go so much better if they'd just work together. The same thing is happening with the feminists and the mentals and the censorship groups in this case. Feminists are trying to say it's just because of misogyny, meanwhile mentals are trying to say it's just because of mental illness, and the censorship groups are trying to say it's just because of the websites and the lack of internet policing... I just want to yell and go "STOP. THERE WERE A TON OF FACTORS IN THIS. LETS ALL WORK TOGETHER," but everyone is too greedy and pushy about their own causes, too caught up in their own issues to actually give a shit about the *actual* state of the world.[/endrant]

I like how all shooters these days have political agendas and strong opinions on current hot button topics.

Smells like rats. XD

On the serious though, his manifesto is really pathetic.

Everybody wants their fifteen minutes of fame. They just try to cram as much as they can to make their mark on the world.

Most of the time it doesn't work, though, especially when their material is stupid and baseless.

This world is getting crazier and crazier each day. Too bad there isn't a group... no... community willing to change something about it.

22 Name: Shiro W. : 2014-08-03 02:44 ID:3XrOeXZF [Del]

>>21 but isn't that what we are here for, think about it, the dollars are a group that is growing, daily, anonymously unified with the means to discuss these things on a vast scale. with everyone doing a bit we could achieve great things, everything from large clean up projects, to just inspiring members to be better people, can change peoples lives and show them the good in the world that they should strive for. This system is a powerful tool for good and it keeps getting stronger as more and more of us come together with similar interests, we become closer and can work faster towards any goal we set.

>>22 Yea, that is what I was hinting at. But I can't tell if other members are serious or are just messing around like >>23. The "Dollars" aren't actually a real thing like a lot of people want it to be, from what I can tell. I have noticed other members wanting to contribute to charities to at least do something. But, I haven't heard anyone actually going through with it yet. And thank you for sticking up for >>22 >>24.

>>25 The Dollars is a real thing just as the members want it to be.
If you want it to be more, quit bitching about others not doing shit and go do shit.

There's only one other site I know of that uses the term "newfig." Does the term "Nugtella" mean anything to you? This is all just rather embarrassing if not.

It's a read and a half.

>>22>>24>>25 okay so yeah the dollars are a pretty real thing, I basically like to think of the dollars as more of a term than a site, we are a group of people that want to make a difference, and just because your not part of this site doesn't mean your not one of us, the dollars are just normal people who want to make a change. And believe me the dollars have done things to make a change before and some of us are actually serious about all of this, I personally have done thing's to make a difference including donating to charities, although I have never used the dollars name though, although we are kind of an anonymous organisation. >>23 and you know what Fuck you, one using the term gay in that context is just wrong, there are people out there that are probably seriously offended by that and plus there are people out there that really think that way about the Dollars, we are suppose to be an organisation that exists to make a difference.

30 Name: Chreggome : 2014-08-05 00:34 ID:2IJIqNvA [Del]

>gay in that context is just wrong
It's not.

>people out there that are probably seriously offended
Don't give a shit.

>suppose to be an organisation that exists to make a difference
We're not supposed to be anything.

The only thing that I said I didn't care about was people being offended.

Let's quit derailing the thread though.

The shooter was a fucking manchild - not mature enough to be out of diapers if you ask me. He was an entitled little shit (tying in with the whole mental illness thing), and the racism and misogyny are the results of that larger mindset. There was no single cause.
Like Barabi said in >>14, everyone's just clamouring over each other trying to push their own issue into the spotlight. It's bloody shameful, but it's nothing new.

(Reading the manifesto made me cringe like nothing I've ever known. What a little bitch.)
