net neutrality was just neutralized today, the United States (possibly other places?) is taking a huge step backward into a world where internet can be made slower for using a certain website for long periods of time to soak more money out of us
it's not all bad though, as we haven't even had net neutrality laws for long, lol but of course the only site to say net neutrality is dumb is forbes
If you're rich you don't need to worry, I guess
man that would be nice
sign this petition though, maybe we can make a difference, like with SOPA so long agohttp://act.watchdog.net/petitions/4655?share_ref=xWmQAnjX7CY

thanks
your friend, MrKoopan

>>6 I didn't read. Reading is for people who have patience. Skimming to find what is wrong would be a much more accurate statement.

Anyway, the reptilian vampirss who run the national base on the moon have been tapping our phone calls through chemical trails and aids for generations so I don't see how this will change much.

Lemme repost something here to explain my views on this --v

Yes, but because they have the power to monopolize the internet in areas, it cannot be treated as solely their own. In the community I live in, Comcast has made a contract so that they are the only ISP we're legally able to use as no other company is allowed to build lines here. Even satellite internet providers like Dish aren't allowed to provide us service. If large companies can monopolize the areas where they put their lines down and tell us that we're not permitted to have any other options, then the gov't needs to step in and start regulating the distribution of it as a utility to ensure that these private companies are not overstepping their boundaries.

It's no longer the economic Darwinism that I, as a moderately proud capitalist, support when we start limiting an industry like this. It's like a supermarket declaring that no one in the area can own a farm; it takes out any chance of another person become wealthy off their crops, and that chance is the whole point of capitalism. When you add in something like this, where the supermarket can then pick and choose how many apples or oranges they're going to buy... That normally sounds right, but in this case, their choice affects many apples the community is allowed to have in general because there is no competition, no other place to purchase them now. That can starve entire communities of people, especially if the prices on everything else are raised as a result.

That's the analogy, anyway.

I believe that private companies should be left to their private practice, but this is starting to get ridiculous. The internet has become as much of a necessary utility as telephone lines were only a few decades ago, and it's unacceptable for it to be treated this way.

>>20 It's the same in my area, Bell owns the wires that go into my home, so no matter what service provider I use, the speed can only go down.

Who did Comcast make the contract with? That would be the person I'd say would be the problem. I thought there were laws against having monopolies on anything, but that may only apply to basic necessities.

>>21 It's a private community, so I assume the deal was made with the contractors who originally bought the land and cleared the area, maintained by the current owners. I don't think the current monopoly laws apply to closed communities, unfortunately :c

Actually, no. Now that I think about it, it's not available for the whole town. This entire zipcode is unavailable, which means it's beyond just the private community. Hm.

>>21 You most likely already have fiber laid down throughout your area. Wait a couple more years until it's used.

>>24 I am doubtful of that, considering that's our town's current project. The waiting list for getting it to your home is years long.

I have some shitty copper at the moment. The box outside my house looks like a 9th grade electricity science project that someone poured water in and let rust, and if we try to repair it or touch it at all our service is cancelled.

>>24 My current town is a newer area full of retirement communities and mobile homes. I somehow don't think anyone will be in a rush to supply fancy fiber internet here in the next decade.

27 Name: MrKoopan : 2014-05-25 23:31 ID:mhYmkmqU [Del]

ooooh, a discussion
look at the bright side of all of it though
if these companies do it right we might all actually get nice internet like the rest of the world, solely out of competition between all of the different ISPs

28 Name: Sleepology !4a6Vun8zuw : 2014-05-26 02:40 ID:/paKCtOX [Del]

>>27 that is an extremely naive way of looking at this and I pity you.

Even I had arguments with some friends over this. ISP have already been shown to slow people connections with certain sites even with these "rules" in place because it would be almost impossible to enforce when the scapegoat excuse is to blame the outdated and never upgrading infrastructure.

30 Name: MrKoopan : 2014-05-26 13:30 ID:mhYmkmqU [Del]

Sleepology always has a stick up his butt
I don't like this at all, but if something is gonna happen you have to see the sort of alright in things do you not? I pity the way you live friend

Dr. Lecter knows what he's talking about, I'll stick to listening to this guy
