In Russia, the bill against Homosexual information/propaganda and the gay community has been passed in Moscow's Duma on June 11th, 2013. It sparked a number of protests and two attacks against homophobes. The reason for the law is to promote traditional Russian values as opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church see as corrupting Russian youth and contributing to the protests against Putin's rule. An executive with a government-run television network said in a nationally televised talk show that gays should be prohibited from donating blood, sperm and organs for transplants, while after their death their hearts should be burned or buried. Lawmakers have accused gays of decreasing Russia's already low birth rates and said they should be barred from government jobs, undergo forced medical treatment or be exiled.

If by "sad" you mean that it's sad that true Christian values should be mutated to hate, then yes. But this is no excuse to promote hedonism and immoral lifestyles to replace misguided ideals, especially in light of the recent Duck Dynasty/Phil Robertson battle.

>>3 You do realize this is Russia right? RIGHT?! And this isn't new, this is rather old, by about 6 months. If you actually read the thread you would know that. It has nothing to do with your supposed christian values. You would have known that too if you actually, wait for it, read the thread!

I did read the entire thread, which included a grand total of two (count `em, two) posts before mine, and it does'nt matter whether or not it`s in Russia, and I said "especially in light of the recent Duck Dynasty/Phil Robertson battle", meaning that the more recent inceident only adds on to the first.

>>3>>5 I really doubt that this is about "true Christian values" and more about entrenching support for Putin among the largely traditional and conservative Russian populace. I also don't see how suppressing the homosexual population of a country will reduce hedonism or immoral lifestyles, as those are in no way tied to a specific sexuality, gay people are no more inherently immoral or hedonistic than straight people. I also fail to see how Russia imposing limits of free speech six months ago has anything to do with the Duck Dynasty shenanigans.

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this plays out during the Olympics. Russia has said that they won't interfere with any athletes, but after how much this blew up I can't imagine that a gay athlete won't try to make a political statement at some point. I know the US in particular made special note of the fact that they were sending several gay athletes to the Olympics. Russia's reaction to that should be interesting to see.

I don't think gays should have less rights than other people.
But I also agree that ANY propaganda should not be fed to our children.

>>7 Gay rights are not propaganda, they are rights. Now, if there was a movement promoting an all gay Russian government, that would be propaganda, promoting a certain type of politic.

>>8 Gay parades and whatnot are propaganda.

I agree to an extent with that. Hell Blacks had marches, but not as many times as gays hold their parades. If they did one every one and again during important events towards THEM, then it'd be different.

>>9 You could consider any movement to get basic human rights by any group propaganda. In that regard, I don't think it's fair to say propaganda is bad. The original meaning of the word was fairly neutral, if I'm not mistaken. For example, convincing people donating money to charity is good could be considered propaganda.

I think that people have their own tastes and that they should be able to choose freely. you should date whoever you wanna date! screw the comments and the judgement! our world has enough limitations for freedom, so stop with the judgement! think of how it would be to be in their shoes ^^ just my opinion ^^ a lot of my friends dont date the opposite sex, and so what?! I love my friends just how they are!!!so if you dont date the opposite sex, dont feel bad!!! You guys will probably win the cutest couple award!!! so youre perfect!!!

Perfect... definitely...
Everyone has to pass judgement in one way or another, if they did`nt, how could we do anything? I certainly won`t stop the comments and judgement if that`s my honest opinion, and I welcome any and all comments and judgements for mine. Tolerance apparently only goes one way, and that`s the way the majority moves. As the Japanese say, "The nail that sticks up is beaten down."
Food for thought.
Merry Cristmas all!

Yes, it's wrong, yes it's "sad," But in truth, what can we do? By defending one persons views, we are obscuring another's. We can't simply say that what Russia is doing is horrible, because we, as humans, value our own thoughts above anyone else's, giving us an obscured sight to the full conflict.
as an american quote says,
"...when a nation encourages the individual pursuit of happiness, there is no guarantee that everyone is going to like what everyone else is doing. That is part of freedom—tolerance of diversity."

While that is a nice sentiment, there is a difference when people's views start impacting the rights of others. If the government legislates that the freedom of speech of gay people is guaranteed, that guarantees the rights of others. Legislation that takes away the freedom of speech for gays takes away the rights and freedoms of others and that should not be tolerated.

there should be a bit more acceptance for these people if they fight through crowds of hateful people for their right to love each other freely.
