source, source
In a unanimous decision by the Australian High Court, the marriage equality laws recently passed by the Australian Capital Territory state government (The only marriage equality laws passed in the entire country thus far) have been revoked, and the same-sex marriages performed under the new law have been annulled and now hold no legal value.
As the laws are effective in only one of Australia's six states and two territories, they are inconsistent with the Federal Marriage Act and therefore unconstitutional.
Darn.

Whatever. I've completely given up, they can do whatever they want these days. They have officially killed all my political optimism.

There were proposed changes to the Federal Marriage Act at one point, and polls showed that ~60% of Australians wanted the changes made. Unfortunately, the proposal 'disappeared' at some point shortly before the federal election.
