Stevie Wonder Boycotts Florida Until “Stand Your Ground” Law is A (9)

1 Name: 🐾BlackFoxNews : 2013-07-29 15:13 ID:nBvgDz6z [Del]

During a recent performance, 63-year old musician Stevie Wonder said that will not perform in the state of Florida ever again until and unless the “Stand Your Ground” law is abolished. This is the same law that legal experts say protected George Zimmerman, the 29-year old man who admittedly shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.

During the concert, Stevie said: "...And I know I’m not everybody, I’m just one person. I’m a human being. And for the gift that God has given me, and from whatever I mean, I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."

He added: "Because what I do know is that people know that my heart is of love for everyone. When I say everyone I mean everyone. As I said earlier, you can’t just talk about it, you have to be about it. We can make change by coming together for the spirit of unity. Not in destruction, but in the perpetuation of life itself."

Stevie, who signed with Motown Records more than 50 years ago at the age of 11, is known for being socially-conscious. In the 1970's, some of his biggest songs were about injustice and poverty. He has recorded more than 30 U.S. top ten hits and received 22 Grammy Awards.

Man if only somebody talked about what this law actually means, instead of just talking about how a random celebrity refuses to go to x place

There you go again. Posting these shity news articles that quite honestly I don't give a shit about.

By the way, you forgot to link your copy/past: http://blog.blacknews.com/2013/07/stevie-wonder-boycotts-florida-wont-perform-until-stand-your-ground-law-abolished101.html#.UfcRoGTwIzs

To be 100% clear, The Stand Your Ground law is a type of self-defense law that gives citizens the right to defend themselves with reasonable force without running away or retreating from a dangerous situation.
Seems like a pretty just law to me, if I'm not mistaken.
So from what I have read here is that Stevie Wonder, a 63-year old musician, refuses to perform in Florida, until the Stand Your Ground law is completely eradicated from the state.
We'll tough shit, because it's not gonna happen. The Stand Your Ground law is already a just law and is protected by the second amendment.
Stevie Wonder wants the entire state of Florida to give up their rights to defend themselves so he can perform a fucking concert there? FUCK THAT.
It's not the law's fault that Zimmerman won the case it was the fucking jury's.

The florida scene is fucking garbage anyway. The guy would be doing himself a favor by not playing there.

>>4 "The Stand Your Ground law is a type of self-defense law that gives citizens the right to defend themselves" Zimmerman was not defending himself! he killed a 17 year old boy for no reason and then said it was "self-defense" so basically you have the right to kill anyone in Florida and claim it as self-defense.

>>5>>6 Double post.
Also did you not read what I said.
I said nothing about Zimmerman's ass until later. My response is more heavily focused on the freedoms of the people, not the Trayvon Martin vs George Zimmerman case.
I refuse to accept that people should have their rights striped away from them entirely because of one asshole. What your telling me is that no one in the state of florida should have the right to defend themselves because of Zimmerman killed a 17 year old African American child? Yes, it's fucking terrible but the whole state of florida should not have to suffer for it. And if you don't think so then your are obviously too fucking blind to notice the heavier impact of things.
And judging from what I know, Zimmerman didn't kill him for no reason, because Martin attacked him. How much do you even know about the case?
Let me repeat myself incase you didn't get it the first time. It's not the laws fault Zimmerman is not in jail, it's the jury's, and the fucked up justice system.
Also no one can claim self defense without valid proof.
Zimmerman had proof, doesn't mean I'm for him. Just stating facts.

>>7 Amen.
I think this whole reaction is a little severe. Sure, in Zimmerman's trial the Stand Your Ground law was somewhat detrimental, but we should NOT be judging anyone who uses that law in such a way. Sometimes people do actually use self defense for a good reason, and that's all I've got to say on the matter.
