A redditor by the name "mistysilver" has debunked something rather interesting: Microsoft RM. Apparently, they work for a Marketing Firm was at a Microsoft office when they noticed two MS employees on the computers, on Reddit. They were clicking and switching tabs quickly, talking about games and their bosses.

Misty believes that they were performing "Reputation Management", where they downvote Pro-PS4 and Anti-XBOX One comments, as well as making positive comments about the new Xbox One, after the console's poor reception.

In addition to their suspicions, mistysilver's boss had confirmed that Microsoft had recently hired a large number of SMM managers to handle RM for the XBOX One.

Wouldn't this go under gaming? Just double checking

It seemed like a better idea, in my opinion, to put it on the news board. It is about a game consoles, but it's also about business.

This sounds like the sort of thing that tinfoil hat crazy people talk about when mentioning corporate propaganda and whatnot.

Reoutation management is a very real thing. Look at any site calling Kirby salesmen out or calling the whole thing a scam.
Then, look up anything that has had claims of being a scam.

It should be against the law, but it's not. Lying to make a sale is part of the American dream!

Big surprise. People do this all the time. But it will never save this stinker.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've seen that many posts on tumblr pertaining to how terrible the Xbox One - not sure how much of it I believe, but I wouldn't buy the console anyway. I always preferred Playstation or PC to Xbox.
It's 1984- and Brave New World-esque, with a touch of Fahrenheit 451. Controlled by technology, constantly being watched and all.
But yes, this isn't awfully uncommon. Most businesses do it, to some extent. Sad but true.
