On May 31st, 2013 peaceful protestors in Istanbul, Turkey were shown open violence by the police. People had been enjoying recreational activities in an ongoing peaceful protest against turning Gezi Park into another one of Istanbul's numerous shopping malls. However, several days after the protest began police used excessive force in the form of rubber bullets, water cannons, and tear gas aimed directly at people. Now, several suffer brain damage, hundreds suffer respiratory problems, many are permanently blind, and there are even some unconfirmed reports of death. It began as a protest for one of Istanbul's last green spaces and continues as a revolution against Prime Minister Erdogan's way of government. However, there has been a media blackout, no mainstream media outlet has broadcasted what's been happening in Turkey. Still, Turkish citizens continue to "stand shoulder to shoulder against fascism."

>>2 This is under the assumption that you want a link to more info. http://occupygezi.co.uk/ , http://intellihub.com/2013/06/02/turkeys-bloody-friday-infographic/ , http://world.time.com/2013/06/05/live-from-occupied-gezi-park-in-istanbul-a-new-turkish-protest-movement-is-born/ , http://www.thenation.com/blog/174614/occupy-gezi-international-solidarity-turkeys-uprising , these are just a few. You can easily find more information by googling 'Occupy Gezi' since most information about it is being spread via internet.

Already knew about this. A few Turks on a forum I frequent have been covering it for a while. Pretty crazy that the Turkish media is covering it up, despite how obvious it is. A lot of people are protesting to get the PKK (I believe) to step down from control, too.

>>3 The link was not only for more information, but also to ensure that it was true and un-biased. On another note, with the conflict in Syria and now this, it seems to me that the Middle-East is slowly (or quickly, in some respects) going to shit :/
