Recently, there have been accounts deleted by the Instagram servers. From what I heard, it has to do something with clearing up the server space by deleting inactive accounts. If you dont want them to delete your account, just post a pic that says. "Do not delete my account." You'll eventually know what i mean.
Another one I heard, is that there's a guy that has hacked into the Instagram team and deleted over 200k accounts. They DID say something about technical diffulcties, but not very accurate.

This is not true. Instagram will not tell you to post and tag to save your account from being deleted.
However, the cause of this rumor may have been the fact that a small number of users weren't able to access their accounts temporarily.
