18 year-old Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested and charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a child 12 to 16 years of age after her girlfriend's parents called the police on her after she turned 18. She was expelled from her school just before her graduation as well. Her 15 year old girlfriend has stated that she wasn't forced and everything was consensual.

What do you guys think? Was it just about the age gap or was it because of the same-sex aspect of it? Sorry this was kind of rushed.

The girlfriend's parents did it because of the same-sex, I'm sure. However, the law justifies it for two reasons:

1) AoC in Florida is 18, and Romeo/Juliet laws only account for individuals aged 16-23. The girl is 15, so it's pretty open and shut.

2) Even when Romeo/Juliet laws can apply, it's been ignored in same-sex cases. That protection has still yet to be provided, so there really isn't much that this girl can do besides go before the jury.

From what I've heard, the two of them were in a relationship before Kaitlyn turned 18, and her girlfriend's parents decided to press charges after she became of age. So although it technically wasn't legal, there was definitely a homosexuality bias behind it.

And I mean, what if the scenario was different, and they said they didn't have lesbian sex, however you do that...

Not to mention that there have been cases where someone so much as touching someone else inappropriately has been construed as sexual assault.

I mean, I would fine it weird for an 18 year old guy to date a 15 year old girl (sadly I know a couple of people that do) It's not arrest and expel worthy but its certainly not just fine because they are a gay couple.

From what I've read about this, the mother and family of Kaitlyn are trying not to get her name on the Sex Offender registry, since it would ruin her life before it even started...

I don't really no about the homosexuality issues, that may have been the underlying cause for her parents, but i don't know how it will go in court.

Then again I'm 18 and i think dating sophomores is a little odd.
