So, in light of new ideas to journey to Mars, I present to you a thread dedicated solely to SPaceX's Mars colonization plan. Starting in 2018, 80k people per year willbe shipped to Mars to found a colony. Tickets cost 500k USD each, and are 1-way (for now). I'm feeling pretty keen about this, and I just need to dig up 500k so I can join.
Hrmmm... I wonder how much of this is theory and how much is actually practical. I know that the Russian space program was looking for a childless couple in their late 40's-50's to go up into space (due to the fact they would not be coming back) but the issue of gamma radiation is still a major hinderance to the idea of a flight to mars, the bone wear caused by lack of gravity would also be a problem. Apparently they are thinking of coating the spaceship with a layer of human excrement to lessen the effects.
Oops sorry, looks like it was actually another private space company that wanted to send a married couple without kids into space. Also they intend for it to be a round trip now (which is not what I heard last).
