I've occasionally kept up with the politics involved in this, but not recently... Oddly enough, the general rule (at least in Afghanistan) was that it was outcry from American authorities to cut back on these attacks, whereas the Afghani response was 'shut up America and drop some more bombs, we need these idiots outta here'.

Note, however, that this is far from current information.
