Baby born without a brain. (40)

1 Name: Emerald : 2012-10-05 21:12 ID:0Gvz9CZx [Del]

There have been several cases of children born with a brain stem but no brain. They don't live long, but the current record s 2 years.
It kinda freaks me out that the parents are kinda babying a corpse.
So here's my question:
If your child was born without a brain or you knew before it was born, would you wait till it died by itself or would you ask the doctor to 'put it down'?

Put it down.

I looked into it, and it's a genetic disorder called anencephaly. And I'd put it down. What you have is not a child, it's pretty much just an overgrown fetus that's in a coma it has very little chance of waking up from. Keeping it alive would be a waste of both time and money.

>>4 It has no chance of "waking up". there is no child who can wake up in any way. They are born without the part of the brain that thinks. Anencephaly is nature's way to keep meat fresh. I'd put it down.

There's probably a law against 'putting' the children down, who doesn't have a brain.

WHAT THE FUCK! WHY ARE YOU SAYING "PIT IT DOWN" LAST TIME I CHECKED DOGS GOT PUT DOWN! NOT HUMAN LIFE! GOD HATES PEOPLE WHO KILL THERE CHILDREN!

11 Name: Emerald : 2012-10-06 16:06 ID:eLCJJ+nq [Del]

>>10 sorry, Euthanize. But as other comments have mentioned its basically just a piece of meat being kept fresh. It's not like the child has a mental disorder like Tourette syndrome or Parkinson's disease. It's missing a vital organ! What's the point if it just sitting there not remembering its parents faces, not showing emotion or even holding its own head up. It would be better to let the baby ret in peace. Don't you agree?

12 Name: LEGION : 2012-10-06 16:15 ID:+Xc6hHbt [Del]

Ugh! That's awful and sicking me off.

Still, I'm pretty sure laws wouldn't permit killing the child off, rather than letting it live for as long as it can. Still, if the other body organs are working, they probably still see the child as a person, not a doll.

>>13 Laws permit parents to unplug their kid when they're in a coma or on life support. They let mothers abort children that aren't born yet. Why wouldn't they permit them to kill a child that has no brain?

The child is basically nothing without a brain. It can't think, feel, move, or really do anything. It's not living.

Well in Florida if I recall, they had to wait for the child to die (some law of their), to even donate the organs, and didn't have a say on letting letting them kill it.

This is why abortion should be legal. If you don't like it, don't get an abortion. That is why it should be a WOMAN'S choice!

>>17 Agreed, this is one of many times in which abortion would prevent a lot physical and emotional pain.

i dont really think of it as 'putting it down' because the kid is not completely 'alive' in the first place, he is just being a derp.

22 Name: Riipple : 2012-10-11 21:17 ID:c2wSLa6U [Del]

abortion, obviously. better that than suffer through emotional trauma for a few years...

Not like you're going to know ahead of time that it's brain won't form.

i would put it down because if i don't it will kill me later on i don't want to grow emotions for something that's gonna leave me in probably less than two years

This is more of a discussion. Maybe should have posted on main. Too late now I suppose.

Not to be weird but i would kinda keep it. Well because I made the baby and I don't want somebody else come in and kill my child. Honestly I hate thinking of dying babies.

29 Name: Yumeno : 2013-04-04 21:36 ID:0bHhcKqf [Del]

i think what i would do in that situation ... but sorry if its imposibile transfer brain to another body. because in the brain are too many nerves what are verry sensibile .

As someone earlier mentioned, it can't really be called "putting the child down" or even compared to abortion because the child can hardly be considered a human at all at that point. With out a brian it's essentially a corpse already. To keep it alive would be akin to a potted plant only with a horrific twist. However if there was some way that the child could ever truly live (and no, I do not consider sitting in a hospital bed as a soulless bag of flesh "living") I see no reason why the body shouldn't be preserved. For example if there is any potential in cryopreservation then perhaps it could be put into storage until printing organs progresses to be able to print entire brains.

the reasons that people object to abortions are
1. the baby will feal pain, no matter how breif
2. it "steals" the childs future
if the child has no brain, it can not feal pain. how could it if it has no brain to process it.also, the child would not have a future anyways. i would support a abortion in "this" case

>>31 LEarn grammar. Its FEEL not FEAL.

No one has the right to end a notheres life you never know the next baby might be the one to make it

34 Name: Zeckarias : 2013-04-12 17:51 ID:zimsS5vf [Del]

>>33 What does the next baby surviving have to do with the ethics of ending the life of the brainless one?

I think most people are failing to acknowledge that this child does not "live" in the sense you think it does. The child receives nothing of the already shallow independence a normal infant gets. It has nothing to do with "abortion" nor destruction of an organism's future. It is an argument between humanity and mercy.

Honestly id have it put down, research has shown that the only thing the brain stem does is monitor and control what is necessary to live, I.E. Breathing,Digestion,Heartbeat ect. Beyond basic functioning a human without a brain cannot do things, feel things or understand things, making it no more alive than a stone with a heart beat.

Without a brain it's not even alive. A body can not live without a brain. Your lungs wouldn't be able to take in air. If born without a brain, it was born without breathing at all.

If you keep a human "alive" if it can not think or do anything on its own, I think of you as a crule monster, its a fate worse than death. This is no baby, this is a potato.

39 Name: Kruez : 2013-04-15 08:39 ID:naHGJ+vC [Del]

Although I'd be sad when it happens I'd put it down, it'd save me a lot of grief later seeing as I'd know it would die soon anyway. I wouldn't get attached to something that's not really there.
