You're being tracked far more than you know. (42)

1 Name: Black!BLACKFJv1Q : 2012-08-21 13:42 ID:KeLN8551 [Del]

In recent news, tracking has become far more advanced than you might think it would be. No longer is IP tracking the biggest invasion of privacy, rather, it's been taken a step further.
Companies can now track you far more selsctively, pointing you out specifically in a crowd of millions.
They can find out your browser, screen size, scripts, cookies, history, among other things. This new method can track people far more precisely, even if you don't want it to.

Test your computer to see how 'unique' it is:

...Which is why I delete my history and keep my torrents on an encrypted flash drive.

Apparently, my computer "appears to be unique among the 2,365,342 tested so far."

You can be identified out of a crow of over 2 million users. Isn't that just wonderful?

>>2
Basically.

Time to get some more proxies and NoScript.

Same here, but everyone customizes their browser a bit differently. Over all not really all that privacy intrusive considering you can easily ditch the whole problem just by running a default installation of some browser (god forbid IE).

Essentially only useful for marketing.

7 Name: Ayanavi : 2012-08-21 14:06 ID:bsGwUWgF [Del]

As a quick update- Tested under a vanilla installation of IE 8, I am no longer uniquely identified at all. There's several thousand people who look exactly like me. That's compared to the two million people who took this, and the fact that IE users themselves are somewhat rare on the net. Taking it with vanilla chrome or FF would probably yield better results.

I noticed, interestingly, that it keeps track of your fonts as well to identify you. This would have been a major problem for me and my 700+ fonts, but I keep them on an External anyway. So no problem.

Again, only worth a damn for marketing. If you're doing something you're worried about being observed over - This thing isn't going to be an obstacle worth giving a damn about to get around.

Running Chrome in incognito bumps me to 1 in a 1,000,000. So thats good news.

Get Tor.
Get behind proxies. Several, if possible.
Use https instead of http where available.
Cancel all outside scripts running.
Set up a VPN.
Use the airport or another wifi. Another computer, if possible.

There you go.

This is just too much! ><
Why would they need to track us anyway?

40 Name: Judas King !Anwmk0xmlw : 2012-10-24 14:09 ID:xCBdgBKt [Del]

obviously they are tracking us but the gov't doesn't really have the manpower to sift through all that information.

Unless you are specifically under investigation, your privacy is most likely intact simply because someone would have to be paid to go through the data.

However, all of that will change when the Utah data center is complete.

41 Name: Sid : 2012-10-24 19:14 ID:M7AcMN0J [Del]

All calls are technically monitered, and they can listen through your phone if it is not in use. My friend had people search his house, probably due to him and his brothers always yelling BOMB into the phone. They said terrorist like things, like bombing a gov building, or shooting up a place. Also a friend was interrogated by the FBI just by simply writing his reasearch paper on a zombie virus. Anywhere you go you can be tracked, but usually you will be pursued only if flags are given off. A lot of drug dealers were found out just through monitering of everyones phone calls and texts.

Also each computer has a serial number due to the chip and motherboard, so they could trace the computer to its origin, and the buyer if need be.
