Mass shooting at 'Dark Night' showing kills movie-goers (91)

1 Name: The Doctor : 2012-07-20 05:15 ID:fLA8qSac [Del]

Aurora, Colo. Police Chief Dan Oates says about 15 minutes into the midnight showing of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."

Oates says them movie was playing on three screens. He says the gunman went to the front of one of the theaters and released a gas can.

Witnesses tell police smoke filled the theater and the gunman started shooting. He was wearing a gas mask and all black clothing.

Oates says police got to the scene and the gunman was already out back in the parking lot next to his car. They found one rifle, one handgun and ammunition in his car.

His name was not immediately released.

Oates says the gunman told officers he had explosives in his apartment. Officers are at the man's North Aurora apartment to evacuate other renters and check for explosives.

Oates called the shooting a "horrific event," and said everybody's thoughts and prayers should be with the victim's families.

Yes, joking.
Fuck them hard.

Saw this on the news this morning as I was leaving my hotel, was immediately saddened for the rest of the day. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Unfortunately, things like this happen, and there are just some bad people in the world, but seeing shit like this happen to innocent people always pisses me the fuck off.

Fuck, man. This is what i woke up to. It's so fucking unreal. i mean, i live over there. i know one or two people who got hurt. i mean, in a sense, i'm lucky that i didn't know them TOO well, but it's still a trip to think of people that i walked by daily are fucking hospitalized now.

There are a few things that fucking annoy me about this case that go beyond that though. The guy shot kids. the guy fucking killed a 6 year old, and shot a three month old. that's fucking weak. not only that, but allegedly, his mom called the police from FUCKING SAN DIEGO after they got him and informed them that they had the right person. what the fuck? did she know about this before-hand?

my mind is so full of fuck.

You have to wonder what could go on in a person's mind to make them want to do this. It's just so hard to comprehend that someone would want to do this.

New York City's police commissioner says the gunman in the Colorado movie theater rampage had painted his hair red and called himself the Joker — the villain from the Batman movies.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Friday that he had been briefed about the shootings that killed 12 and wounded nearly 60 others at a showing of the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" at a suburban Denver theater.

Kelly and his spokesman did not say who briefed him.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates would not confirm the information about suspected gunman James Holmes, but confirmed he had spoken to Kelly. The two used to work together in New York.

Latest update says that his apartment is booby trapped and he might be a terrorist. Since Colorado is a Capital state he might (should in my opinion) be given the death sentence. He was wearing a gas mask and armor when he attacked. This man is seriously messed up in the head. Buildings all around his apartment has been evacuated because there are reports of explosives and other deadly hazards.

Heard about this from some of my friends at the theater. None of them got shot, since I think they were in the back. But it is quite messed up that someone would do this. I just hope it doesn't start a chain reaction, like Columbine did.

14 people were killed. To think that so little ago these people were having a regular day. They were happy to walk into that movie that were thinking of what they were thinking about what they were going to do the next day they had plans for their lives and this man toke all of that away with a movement of his fingers. One of the people killed was a 6 year old child. This kid did not even get to live life. This shows how fragile our lives really are even though we dont realize it.

well. it turns out that the 6 YO victim was the younger sibling of a friend of my sister's. One of the people that i knew that was hospitalized because of this event has passed away. God knows neither of them deserved this. I thank the people on this thread for being mature about this though. i've seen some pretty messed up jokes and puns made about this event.

70 wounded.
12 killed
james holmes is in custody. His apartment is boobie-trapped with bombs and extremely explosive chemicals. chemicals are unidentified. no accomplices have been reported so far, although it is suspected. police are also afraid for a copy-cat killer. most of the survivors are in critical condition.

>>23 number of wounded keeps fluxuating from 50-71. is prbabaly because of a number of misunderstandings and communications errors, so it's hard to tell for sure the exact casualties.

As far as the booby traps are concerned, the explosives in his car, which was parked outside of the theater, were disarmed.

Holmes also turned up his stereo to full volume before leaving his home in order to try to entice his neighbors into knocking on his door in order to tell him to turn down his music and set off the explosives. this attempt failed and police are still currently trying to get access to his apartment, which is still heavily booby-trapped. various cameras and such that have been put into his home by police have confirmed that he had a bucket full of ammunition that could contain anywhere upwards of 6,000 rounds.

Tragedies like this do happen. The blame should not only go to the one that caused the shooting, but also society. Society creates people like him. Also, some of those kids were not meant to be there. There's a reason for movie ratings. This is but one of many incidents of chaos. The world experiences this everyday.

39 Name: Kumo!NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-07-22 16:25 ID:VOxHh/Tt [Del]

>>38 society creates seemingly normal people who have a great education that suddenly decide they want to fucking kill people and blow shit up? excuse me while I question the fuck out of that. Some kids were not meant to be there? many of them were going to a simple outing with other friends. reason for movie ratings? you mean the fucking pg-13 rating that everyone ignores anyways? also, there were very few little kids there. the majority were 16-30 years old.

I'll agree that shit like this happens all the time though, because really, it does. This case is just pretty bizzare in comparison to some other cases.

40 Name: WiseWolf : 2012-07-22 19:20 ID:PKdFs2Y6 [Del]

>>38 Plenty of people in society go through terrible things in their lives and they don't snap. Yes, bad things happen, but how you react to them and ultimately shape yourself is up to you, so I don't think it's societies fault, rather it's his.

>>38 Everyone is responsible for their own destiny. When someone is raised in an certain environment, their path is not predetermined, but rather, one is easier to take than to create one themselves. The man shot up the theater, that was his choice, and he had chosen his own path. Even if society had shown him that path, it was still his choice to take it.

Getting back to the topic of the forum.

I'm going to say that I'm sorry if this offends anyone (thought I wouldn't be saying it if I wasn't afraid to), but am I the only one who thinks the facts in the story aren't really adding up as they should be?

From what I have heard, this man got into the theatre from the fire escape door. The thing is, those doors can't open from the outside. They only swing out, and there is a large metal plate that keeps them from opening from the outside. Not to mention because of the hinged and thickness of the door and door frame, they can't be pushed in.

He either had to blow the door off it's hinges (which is very unlikely), or he had someone help him from the inside. . .

>>77 You're kind of scaring me... e_e But oddly enough, I agree. What this guy did was so terrible, I wouldn't mind something so inhumane in his case.

Random thought: So if the guy was imitating Joker, why wouldn't he dye his hair green instead or orange...? I mean, that's a pretty big screw up on his part. :P

Can they legally do that? I really don't think they can just transfer and have Texas Laws dictate his death, when he broke laws of another state.

>>85 This was an isolated incident, not a interconnected, purposeful strike. In other words, the likeliness of you getting hurt going to the movie now is just as much as for any other movie (or likely to be less, considering...yknow.)

If you're still worried, just wait for the DVD.

>>86 not to make anyone paranoid, but they have stopped several copycats from doing something similar

>>82, no I don't believe that is legal,....but in some cases it should be.

On a side note, I've noticed some people posting jokes about the incident, now I'm all for humor in dark areas, but people seem to be forgetting the formula:
Comedy = TIME + Tragedy.

These kids are forgetting to add Time and instead of being funny, they look like insensitive jerks.
Now if you have a joke right after a tragedy, right it down somewhere, and wait. It may take months or years depending on the severity of said tragedy (9/11 Jokes took about 10 years to be chuckled at) For instance there's a joke in the LOL Thread with photos of him on trial and he said he shot up a Katie Perry movie, but then had a "woops" face. I didn't find it funny because it was way too soon, now if it had waited maybe a month, then the humor might have shown

The psychiatrist who treated suspected movie-theater shooter James Holmes made contact with a University of Colorado police officer to express concerns about her patient's behavior several weeks before Holmes' alleged rampage, sources told ABC News.
