Stroke Turns Straight Man Gay (25)

1 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2012-04-17 16:01 ID:Dapb4s5w [Del]

I'm not quite sure what to make of this, guys.

According to the article, a man who suffered a stroke back in 2011 recovered; however, with extreme changes to his personality, including his sexuality. After losing nearly all traces of the man he used to be, he ended up starting his life over in a sense, embracing his homosexuality.

Here's the thing: in the neuroscience world, it is established that homosexuality may be inborn. Therefore, the diagnosis in this case is that the homosexual tendencies of the patient were simply dormant before the accident. Personally, I'm not sure I buy it.

I subscribe to the belief that homosexual, bisexual and transgender tendencies are brought on by the individual's upbringing. Of course, I'm biased in my own experiences being a gradual development of my own transgender feelings across the years, so I probably am wrong.

But what do you guys think?

Sounds possible.

He CHOSE! to not take care of him self which lead to the stroke!
Sarcasm ofc... I'm wondering if he wasn't closeted from the start, and surviving the stroke might have just lead him out... And saying that the stoke did it, makes it sound a bit more dramatic as well.

It seems more plausible of he recovered from his stroke, and took time out to consider his life choices with more conclusiveness after the fact. Something like that can push you to think with more clarity, and as >>3 said, he may have already been a closet homosexual to begin with.

Although, even if it isn't something encoded into one's genetics, a stroke could very well alter brain function and personality. If you believe sexuality is just another aspect of one's personality, then it's entirely believable to say the stroke "caused" it. It does sound unlikely, but considering the fact that the origin of sexual orientation is a topic of continued debate among biologists and psychologists, it's also hard to say one way or the other.

your not born with homosexuality. its jsut the attraction of the other gender, it can be linked back to your neurological system BUT so can love for a female. like a habit it can be picked up and then just kept.

Nothing has proven it's a choice. There are bi people, and that is probably what a lot of people confuse with there being some type of choice for gay people. But Being Bi, and being Gay, are 2 different things.

From what I have learned, sexual preference is not as simple as pure homosexuality or pure heterosexuality, but rather a continuum ranging from one end to the other. Thus, a person may be mostly homosexual, mostly heterosexual, completely one or the other, or closer to the middle of the spectrum. The stroke in question may have done damage to the patient's brain which shifted his position on this scale, even though he may have been born closer to heterosexuality.

>>8 What you are referring to is the Kinsey System.

Maybe he was Homosexual before the stroke but was to afraid to actually admit it to anyone, so perhaps the new personality change that he got made it easier for him yo admit his sexuality and not be ashamed of it

If this is to be proven true, I believe it would be a major discovery in the human behavior and sexuality.

Actually, there was a male child who was raised as female due to an accident (that we all can imagine I believe) that occured during circumcision. That child was eventually attracted to females. This isn't to say that the upbringing didn't bring it on, but I believe that Nature has more of an impact than nurture in sexuality. I've seen examples of men that turn out straighter than most that were raised by either two women or two men, and they would have had the most influence early on.

Though, I think there may have been, in this case, something that happened during his stroke thatchanged something in his brain so drastically that his sexual preference changed.

People are born gay, bi, & trans… i know because i'm bi … this guy just decided to embrace it rather than hide it after his stroke

I don't think people are born with a sexuality...I mean people change what they like all the time, be it in music, art, etc.
So a person's sexuality can change as well.
i.e. I used to be completely straight but I slowly ended up less attracted to guys and more to girls, and now am a lesbian. People change.

Well, tell that to all the homosexual people stating they didn't choose to be that way.

You are not everyone else, so don't use it as a basis for a broad term such as sexuality.

sorry to break it to you, but homosexuality is in fact a natural occurrence. many animals such as dogs, dolphins, monkeys and many more have displayed acts of homosexuality. so, i mean, if the animal kingdom does it, then it pretty much proves that people are born with a certain sexual inclination, and that the child's upbringing doesn't matter.

When an animal does it, it's to show dominance. It has NOTHING to do with sexual preferences.

Because if you pay attention, once they do it, and the other animal submits, they no longer do it to them.

That depends. there is that specific amphibian, frog i think, which, if males or vice versa, do not exist they change genders.
Limpets(?) change genders as they grow older.
