Kid can't walk at graduation (21)

A 17 year old senior in Ohio can't walk at graduation because he got too many unexcused absences. The reasons for these absences was that he was taking are of his mother who was fighting breast cancer. Here's a link to an article:

Oh wow, look at that angry mob.

It makes me smile seeing people who generally cling to rules to diffuse responsibility being actively torn down. There's no point in following a policy or law if there is no thought behind it - And the ones who enforce it are incapable of thinking objectively themselves.

thats a hard topic realy but remember he will need his education, it logically makes sence to keep jim back a bit not as punishment but for learning

>>3 He only missed 16 days, and he made good enough grades to graduate, he just can't attend the graduation ceremony.

This is wrong, imo. It's true that rules are there for a reason, but how does this help anything? He's not staying back, so what's the point of punishing him if he already did everything he needed to pass? Because he missed some days? I could understand if he was being forced to stay back for no-credit status, but why not allow him to go to graduation when he didn't even do anything wrong? It seems ridiculous to me.

This guy certainly cares a lot for his mother. He has my support.

In the link to the article, they have a petition you can sign to let him walk, which is pretty cool IMO

Bump.

that reminds me of an incident in my locality. A school didn't allow a few students to march because of indecent photos on Facebook. It included drinking, wearing bikinis, smoking and dirty dancing.

Additional info:
It's a catholic school.
Insider says: Only one wasn't allowed. Due to loyalty the others joined. The reason wasn't the photos, it was a sex video.
any comments?

Looks like he will be allowed to walk after gaining a lot of support from people. =)

I hope it all goes well, it's no fair if the school denies him that honor that he deserves.

>>12 thought of exactly the same thing.

read about that. i really don't know which side to blame, because they all have a fault or two at the case.

in this case, however, he passed everything, maybe he even did better than those who had less absences than him. he should be given the chance.

This is ridiculous! I understand holding someone back for being lazy or having bad behavior, but seriously! He is a good kid and worked TWO JOBS to support his mother as she fought for her life!
He deserves to walk across that stage, hell, he deserves to be recognized for being so caring and responsible at someone at his age. This guy defiantly has my support.

That is terrible, the same i wouldnt let them graduate if the were slack offs and just there to waste time but if the student is helping his mother than i would still let them graduate because they try to go to school but cant because of their own mother.poor student

Then it didn't happen 'like' this, at your school. It's totally different. Instead, punks decided to fight. Way different than a person taking care of their mother.

Don't try to classify what happens to punks, compared to that of someone trying to make a difference by helping their mother.

Now, I don't personally care that people post on this topic, because you can give opinions on how they acted beforehand, but some, like Sleep, might not want you to post on it, since it's been handled.
