Original story from ABC13 (Houston)

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Hackers have struck again, this time putting the target on the Texas Police Association's website.

The results -- the names and addresses of hundreds of police officers are now published for all to see. This security breach has law enforcement concerned for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is it puts police officers and potentially their families at risk.

Claiming responsibility for all of this is the hacking group known as Anonymous. The hackers broke into the Texas Police Association website and stole names and addresses -- some of them home addresses -- along with logins and passwords for more than 700 Texas police officers.

The group says the breach is in response to a Dallas ABC affiliate's news story about an officer in the town of Wylie put on administrative leave while he is being investigated for child pornography.

In a website posting, Anonymous wrote 'administrative leave should be reserved for injured officers,' not for what the group calls, 'kiddie porn-collecting cops.'

The Texas Police Association says this is a serious threat.

"This is very serious, not just from the standpoint of law enforcement, but for every private citizen out there as far as their privacy," said Executive Director of the Texas Police Association Erwin Ballarta.

Uncertainty now remains on what happened to that data. The same hacking group was behind a similar breach last year with the Texas Police chief's website. The FBI is now investigating the latest incident.

My comments:
My comments:
Although I agree with their reasoning for it, releasing all the cops in Houston information puts many of their lives in danger. I like anonymous from time to time but not when they can put lives at risk.

atleast they do something.and for high information...they dont leak anything that could start a war.

they need to air congress's dirty laundry though.

3 Name: Ayanavi : 2012-02-03 14:30 ID:nhe0pkIY [Del]

While I understand their reasoning behind this, the actions taken can be compared to abandoning an entire liter of kittens because one of them ate a bird and left the feathers on the couch.

Senseless overkill.

Their outrage is understandable, but their backlash is blind. It does more harm than the good it was intended for.

4 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-02-03 15:51 ID:h8sRJs+X [Del]

I find that to be a common theme of Anonymous. They're the kings of flagrant overreaction for what is otherwise a decent cause. In some cases, their crazy overaction was seen as heroic, like the recent takedown of supporters of the SOPA bill (subjective, but unquestionably supported by a lot of people), but it's times like these that reduce their reputation to that of freelance criminals.

It's like Robin Hood if he was a total jackass, even to the people he helped.

I like their cause as long as it is not harmful but I dont understand why you guys are so angry at them. I believe it is justified.

7 Name: YouLeftMe : 2012-02-03 20:52 ID:jESM8yre [Del]

>>6 lets put it this way, it's like having someone give out all the information under your name. Then add in the fact that people with large amount of hate now have access to the info. Instant problem. We are not saying their cause is wrong just their action towards it.

8 Name: Darasuum : 2012-02-04 00:12 ID:e0qE2XJ8 [Del]

I was all for anon attacking the gov but now....they are putting individuals in danger. I dont approve.

9 Name: DoneLeat : 2012-02-04 01:42 ID:hpiGmVlF [Del]

Well it looks like Anon decided, 'FUCK ALL!' and decided to do something stupid.
This takes the bloody biscuit - and they've pissed on that biscuit and are force-feeding it by shoving it on our throats. Most of the time, whoever, I feel like the hackers are just using the name of Anonymous so people will have someone to blame, but at other times I realize Anon is just full of idiots who couldn't be assed to do something in the real world. Their 'cause' is just self-satisfaction, especially for those who actually believe in it.

10 Name: Morphine : 2012-02-04 11:18 ID:5cDQqllC [Del]

Well, I sometimes have a feeling that Anonymous really isn´t one organised group, but rather more smaller unrelated groups of hackers. I mean, some of the attacks are pretty unreasonable, but for most of the people, they´re "heroes" for fighting against SOPA, PIPA and ACTA so they can basically do whatever they want under the name of Anonymous

11 Name: Vanilla : 2012-02-04 14:06 ID:dVZHgb47 [Del]

It's horrible that the officer's families could now be in danger. How could anyone support putting innocent people at risk?

12 Name: Phantom : 2012-02-04 20:01 ID:uW/pWobm [Del]

Anonymous is a hacker version of the Dollars...but while our members have 75% smart 25% stupid....they have the reverse.

its simple...people are sheep and follow their shepard...most of the time.

I enjoyed reading the comments on this thread because of all the nice analogies.

Also dang... Overkill.

15 Name: Kon : 2012-02-05 15:38 ID:DPdY8gys [Del]

It's not overkill, they only other person who could ever talk sense to a cop, is another cop, now they have a reason to do so.

16 Name: YouLeftMe : 2012-02-05 21:08 ID:iuRLBbBf [Del]

>>15 That may be true but as many of us stated earlier what they did put the cops and their families at great risk. So I'm sorry but what they did was over kill.

17 Name: Proxy !kz26FLRB.w : 2012-02-06 06:58 ID:6m58hcKl [Del]

It's not only overkill it's completely senseless. Innocent until proven guilty, it only makes sense to put him on administrative leave until he is actaully convicted of possession of child pornography.

18 Name: Celestial Envoy : 2012-02-06 07:19 ID:/+lXdAIz [Del]

>>17 If you do believe "innocent till proven guilty" then he should still be aloud to do his job.

Anonymous doesn't play man. Im proud of them taking matters into their own hands, but no one should have to get hurt for this. I hope Anonymous won't take it that far. Don't let this effect your judgment on Anonymous though, I see hope in the future because of them; not saying you should think this too but don't let this incident cloud your judgment.

19 Name: Proxy !kz26FLRB.w : 2012-02-06 08:30 ID:6m58hcKl [Del]

>>18 No, I don't believe that a person under criminal investigation should be able to work in law enforcement, but I also don't believe that he should fired on grounds that the fact that he possessed cild porn has not yet been proven in a court of law and therefore is still technically innocent. So I believe administrative leave was the best option available to protect both his rights and the safety of the citizens in his town.

And don't worry this incident won't cloud my judgement on anonymous as I pretty much already hate them.

I'm neutral towards them. They have done good, they have done bad.

>>20 Action wise I'm neutral too all the anti-censorship and the listening to FBI calls I can get behind, but their ideology is what pisses me off.

22 Name: Umbra Serpens !T1rQ1UNnww : 2012-02-06 13:16 ID:/QCwzD9n [Del]

I think that even though their activities are unlawful, their rage appears to be well-placed for the most part. They haven't done me any wrong, so I don't have any qualms with Anonymous myself.

23 Name: pokjhdbnxw!amuOBZI1yA : 2012-02-07 23:15 ID:IQsgMmPM [Del]

Hmmmm...
"it puts police officers and potentially their families at risk."
I don't exactly understand why people would still support them after reading things like this.

I haven't been following this very much, but from what I can see, They haven't helped in any way towards anyone but themselves. So their motives are selfish, and their actions are unjustified. Well, unjustified in my opinion.

But in all seriousness, If it's true that they are endangering innocent families, then they're long overdue for some good, old-fashion justice.

24 Name: Phantom : 2012-02-08 01:11 ID:uW/pWobm [Del]

I discovered something usegul today.

The younger majority supports Anon.
The older majority protest Anon.

Seems to me Anon has the right idea...drastic times...take overkill measures to get old people to pay attention.

Also just so everyone knows this since the attack on Sony there have been multiple groups of hacker called Anon. This is used to make tracking people and figuring out who did what even harder.

Before that attack on Sony, there already WERE many hacker groups called Anon. Way before the attack.

I don`t see anon as a true group, but more of a large mass of hackers going by the same name, different groups, all doing different things.

Less than 5% of those that consider themselves 'Anonymous' deserve to even be called a 'hacker'.

Honestly the term 'hacker's has been so over/misused by the media that it doesn't even to the true meaning. For example, not all 'hackers' are bad, in fact most I know are simply extremely curious people who enjoy learning about things most others don't.

As for Anonymous, I've found that they suffer from what I call 'Occupyitis', a lack of purpose. Too often the mass of Anons are filed into a stupid cause that in the past they would have laughed at. Modern day Anonymous has become to White Knight-like for its own good (in chanspeak this is called moralfaggotry).

Anyways...

It's funny, Anonymous say "We the people" *starts laughing* But its funny because they always attack those who don't agree with them. And guess who they are? THE PEOPLE. Only anon would do that to them. Look up Kiddie porn and post it on the site. ANON IS FULL OF SICK SHITHEADS WHO CANT FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES!

41 Name: Anonymous : 2012-02-23 09:47 ID:teX1P+n1 [Del]

Do you know the reason Anon is around? No I guess you don't Anon is around because they think that:
1. Their better than all of you which so far proves to be true.
2. They think they can do whatever they want: for ex. taking down websites and deleting Government infornmation which leads to their arrests.
-
And their not representatives of "The People". They represent their own group. Not the people. Just because their called "Anonymous" Doesnt mean that they represent others. & Misuto did you not see all the posts? He said we are morons. Well guess what. He obviously cares about it enough to waste his own time reading and commenting about it. Just like you and Umbra. We don't care that the id is different. Each ID is different VIA computer. There are many computers that we have at our use. We only used 3.

@anubis, Once again. You guys are still letting the trolls, troll. Anubis you just proved that he trolled you, which also means you fail at that post pointing out the troll.
-
@Thiamor, Your still letting the troll, troll you kid. Just Shut the fuck up and ignore it. I think anyone here would have just left the first post alone and went to a different subject.
Anyone smart enough that is. But so far all you guys have proved is that you guys are very easy to troll. Your getting all mad over some other dude over the internet just like you are. All the other guy did was give information that he found was good to know that more and more groups are rising. Sure they may not be able to take on AnonOps, but at the rate Anon is going they probably can. I saw in a later post that Anon basically has their head of they're asses. Which seems to be true, trying to say that they'll overthrow the government is like going up to an armed military soldier and running at him with a knife. Your not gonna win, the other guy has a gun and all you have is a knife...
-
So anyway, don't let the troll get to you that easily. Or just ignore it. Either way works.

You fail to realize that Anonymous has very little to do with 'hacking' at all.

Modern day kiddie-Anons are generally obsessed with moralfaggotry. The true Anonymous is far from 'Hackers on STEROIDS' that the dumb fuck media portrays them to be.
