Why isn't there more comments for this.

3 Name: Rieg !ZW5PizsNSw : 2012-01-22 13:45 ID:k2eGqQ+r [Del]

Who knows its probably because everybody's wraped up in the SOPA and PIPA threads. But this is some serious stuff so there should be more people.

4 Name: Xissx : 2012-01-22 14:44 ID:pOlXt/Il [Del]

Whoa! Sounds awesome! This girl may save the work from one of our most deadly diseases. I'm stoked!

5 Name: Daisy : 2012-01-22 17:52 ID:h5nmj9DS [Del]

That's nice ^.^
It's great to know that theres a cure for cancer now.Its a important discover but I can understand that there isn't much comment because everyone is busy with constant post on SOPA and PIPA

6 Name: Hatash : 2012-01-22 17:55 ID:u8KZXBAu [Del]

if it works, we don't have to worry about anyone having cancer now :\ if failed...start panicing

7 Name: Xissx : 2012-01-22 17:59 ID:pOlXt/Il [Del]

>>6 Not really. Its not like the Cancer rate will increase if she fails. It will be the same, just with another failed cure, that's all.

8 Name: マシンガン !v0GixqO39k : 2012-01-22 19:57 ID:SLFSX+Bv [Del]

Darn over achievers. Reminds me of a kid I knew at my school. =__= His experiment was that he discovered a bacteria that could kill off potentially harmful viruses. He won that science fair pretty easily.

Although I'm glad this girl found what might be a possible cure. Even if it doesn't work, the results will help others with their research as well.

9 Name: The Doctor : 2012-01-22 20:20 ID:+YzE9pUK [Del]

While it's great that people would no longer have to suffer, but there's just one problem. Now, I don't want to sound cynical or anything, but we do need cancer, and I apologize to the people who have lost loved ones to cancer, I also lost people I love. However I believe in a balance of life and death. Humans believe that death is a bad, evil, vile thing which should be avoided at all costs, and so, attempt to prevent it in any way. What people don't see, is that if you didn't have disease, war, or crime, we would overpopulate and there would be more suffering due to lack of space and food..... sorry, just throwing that out there.

I don't have words to explain how fucking stupid you sound right now. I'm sorry, but this is ALL that I can say to that.

11 Name: anubis !uSezxvwowc : 2012-01-22 21:55 ID:ImViLYjg [Del]

>>9 I get what you're saying, but my aunt has cancer. She has two young children. If this girl's research can save her then I am all for it.
Also, this earth has plenty of room and resources for a larger population than it currently holds. We just need to use them better.

12 Name: Anonymous : 2012-01-22 22:07 ID:HR4e/nAj [Del]

Sounds ingenious, waiting for updates. I want to know if this works on humans.

13 Name: Ferrik Flint !i8Fb1hrncA : 2012-01-22 22:12 ID:yuSlqRrL [Del]

If this research can lead to saving lives, I think the only ones who could oppose it are the ones who profit from people having cancer. Either way.. I can kind of understand what The Doctor is saying. Here's my opinion: If this research truly does lead to the cure of cancer, then by all means implement it and save as many lives as possible; human life is the most important thing we have. On the reverse side, though, if we continue to cheat Death, will we one day discover the secrets of the Immortal Jellyfish? (For those who don't understand the reference, here's the article: http://green.yahoo.com/blog/guest_bloggers/26/the-world-s-only-immortal-animal.html) If, by some miracle, humans are able to one day unlock the secrets and become immortal.. It would be the ones in power who are given the ability. And what if they were, say, corrupted, as a great many are? I dunno. Hypothetical possibilities are pointless at this point, but I'm just stating my opinion.
All in all? Keep searching for that cure, and save as many lives as you can.

>>11 "Also, this earth has plenty of room and resources for a larger population than it currently holds. We just need to use them better." Err, no. Assuming the rich aren't over buying land and resources (doubtful) and the poor actually have food to eat (also doubtful) earth doesn't have enough resources. Although wishing cancer on people isn't exactly the way to go about it. I'd say birth control (as in, educating poorer nations on how to use it) would be a more viable answer.

15 Name: The Doctor : 2012-01-23 04:39 ID:+YzE9pUK [Del]

Wow, I never said that I wish cancer on anyone, I'm just saying that death is a part of life, and without it, we'd be in serious trouble. Once again, I apologize to the people who have, or know people who have it.

16 Name: Xissx : 2012-01-23 07:33 ID:Ekw56ikD [Del]

>>15 I understand where your coming from. Yes, we do need death in this world. But in your post you kinda made it sound like Cancer is the only cause of death. (Or is that just me?)
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, that there are pletny of other ways to die in this world. So if a cure for cancer is found, I'm pretty sure the world will still be in balance.

17 Name: マシンガン !v0GixqO39k : 2012-01-23 14:13 ID:SLFSX+Bv [Del]

>>15 I was exaggerating. xD Don't worry about it.

18 Name: The Doctor : 2012-01-23 14:46 ID:+YzE9pUK [Del]

My apologies, I have difficulty explaining what I think clearly. Well, that was my first concern about this anyway, my second concern is this: If they tested on animals, and it was successful, why would they not test on terminal humans? Well, there are many theories running through my mind at this time and they are
1) The major drug companies will lose millions of dollars to this
2) They are saving it for only the rich and famous, "screw the poor"
C) They are trying to figure out how to control the cure to control people. I heard that the cure is nano-machines, so if the government wanted to, they could create a cancer scare that would drive people to be inoculated, and if the nano-machines could attack cancer-cells, perhaps the government could program them to kill healthy cells, so if there is someone causing problems, it could act like ....well, a Death Note.

19 Name: マシンガン !v0GixqO39k : 2012-01-23 14:49 ID:SLFSX+Bv [Del]

>>18 1, 2, C? o__o

I agree to 1, and 2 isn't exactly wrong but isn't exactly right. With any medicine (especially something like this), it costs a substantial amount of money and poor people wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. It's not exactly "saving" it for the rich.

As for C, I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories. As inefficient and terrible our government is, I doubt they'd go that far. If this were North Korea, however...

I heard about this in school. This girl is obviously gonna go on to do more important stuff in her life, she's so smart. When I was her age... I think I spent all my time playing tetris actually. That's some crazy stuff, doing that kind of project in her spare time...

Apparently it will take a while before they can test it on humans, something like a couple years. Still, it's really great news!

25 Name: DoneLeat : 2012-02-02 03:53 ID:hpiGmVlF [Del]

How many people die from cancer that wasn't caused by smoking anyway? I'm genuinely interested.

As much as I think she deserves the recognition she got, because she's a Monta Vista student I can't help but hate her guts. Still, finding a new weapon to combat cancer is no small feat.

31 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-02-03 00:07 ID:F/nY3Cu+ [Del]

I don't see, unless you're joking, why you'd hate her guts for being in that school.

>>31 Because Monta Vista High School is full of cheaters and exploiters when it comes to how they compete in state events. I noticed this while I was in FBLA.

Now I don't know this girl, and I'm sure she's a really good person (since she's curing cancer and whatnot), but I cannot forgive Monta Vista for what happened at State this last year.

37 Name: Randori : 2012-02-03 23:01 ID:Jle8UeLV [Del]

lol I'm sorry for being cynical but this remind me of that movie "I am legend" where they found a way to cure cancer but it resulted in turning people into zombie/vampire thing.

this is great news btw, I also read an article about student actually solving a way to cure HIV using a sort of video game that's like tetris, anyway I think society is slowly moving from the stupid era to a more sophisticated future

I don't know if any of you really realize how difficult it is to cure cancer but this is fucking amazing news to me.

40 Name: Dual : 2012-02-07 03:50 ID:TVM1Qhpt [Del]

I think that new is false... the human want that cure more than 200 years if they finaly finish the cure that new spawn in all the TV shows of world...-

yeah... it wont show me the story, so i cant believe it

42 Name: Zeck~ : 2012-02-08 11:11 ID:odsDptdd [Del]

>>40 Did you even TRY to read it? If you were to go ahead and learn more about the story than just the title you would know that it's about an advance in cancer research, specifically a way to ensure treatment (that is essentially a slightly unstable type of cure) does it's job and without infecting healthy cells.
>>41 The link works, or at least it did when I've tried it. If it's broken I'll put a different link up when I get home.

>>43, Not only is your post next to unreadable, it is stupid and ill informed. Let's see, human testing for this is supposed to happen in the next 20 years, I'm guessing it'll take another 20ish after that (random guess here) for it to be ready to use on humans. That puts her at 60ish. You sure are giving her a short lifespan.
