"CHICAGO (CBS)– Police are investigating the beating of a male teen in the wake of a disturbing YouTube video that shows a prolonged attack in a Bridgeport alley.

The videotaped assault happened shortly between 4 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 hundred block of South Princeton Avenue, Chicago police told CBS 2.

The 17-year-old victim was jumped by seven offenders and was robbed of his gym shoes, wallet and money, police said.

It’s not clear who recorded the 3-minute, 39-second video. It shows several youths chasing, punching and kicking the victim. The faces of most of the offenders are not visible, but they appear to be in the age range of the youth they are attacking.

The victim was treated and released at Mercy Hospital.

Area 1 detectives are investigating, police said.

A YouTube link sent to CBS 2 Monday evening was later disabled. A separate posting of the same video later appeared."

At least they're probably going to jail. If the internet is correct, their names and phone numbers have already been made public.

Oh, yeah. This has been all over the Internet in the past few hours.
It's horrible, but I need to go off topic for a bit. Why does it matter he's Asian? I don't mean to be sensitive but I don't think describing him as Asian every time the incident is mentioned is necessary, unless he was attacked because he's Asian, but it's not said why he's attacked.

@ultispy why does it matter? racial profiling isn't raciest. 1)that was the name of the video. and it was probably done to attract viewers and provoke a sympathetic response and 2)neither the viewer nor the victim care what it's called as long as people are aware of the incident. To be honest what are you supposed to call it? "XiaoMing Leo Liang gets his ass handed to him"? no, because then no one would even bother to care.
Racial profiling is unrelated to racism. And saying it were would just be downright archaic. To move on from holding racial profiling in such high regard would be to disregard it.

To get on topic, the man clearly didn't speak English and couldn't fend for himself. That's why this is worse than your average mugging- and who would be stupid enough to film it and post it everywhere? Well, that's actually too average. Damn it's stupid.

I believe we are getting of topic here. From the video the kid barely speaks at all, is he a foreigner? Maybe that is why they beat him up. No matter though, this is fucking sick and I hope any and all lunatics who does this out of sheer entertainment die a horrible and lonely death.

I've heard about this from a close friend, but this is the first time I've seen it myself. Pretty fucked up bro.

One part I hate is the fact that they're saying, "Ayo, watch gon' do, nigga?" and then it breaks into "ayo, get that nigga!" and throughout the entire video they just threw it around when it was unneeded. Now, I don't care about the actual word being used and if its offensive, yada yada yada. What I do hate is that they were using it to sound tough. I don't get why they had to be such fucking idiots/tools and try to talk like that, or act the way they did to begin with. Did they not think of the future, and the consequences it could have brought? Did they not realize that nobody would respect them for doing what they did, especially when it was such a defenseless target? Nothing they did was necessary at all, whether it was the mugging itself or pretending to be gangsters in the way they spoke. I hope these fuckers rot.

I love how everyone is jumping onto the bandwagon. No one knows the motive of those 7 guys (like specifically) and apparently according to the comments, those 7 guys were jumped on by 20 guys led by that "victim".
Everyone needs to just stop trying to be an Internet tough guy and saying how you'll kick their asses and try to find out what freaking happened before this. Just like Transformers, this is more than meets the eye.
