Just one month after filming an "It Gets Better" video in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth, a California-based gay teen filmmaker has taken his own life.

Nineteen-year-old Eric James Borges, who went by EricJames among friends, worked as an intern with The Trevor Project, and as a supplemental instructor at the College of the Sequoias, according to Queer Landia blogger Jim Reeves.

"A brief introduction left me with the impression of a fine young man, and I regret that I did not get to know him better," Reeves writes of his experience with Borges.

Borges spoke frankly of being tormented throughout his adolescence and young adulthood in his video. "I was physically, mentally, emotionally and verbally assaulted on a day-to-day basis for my perceived sexual orientation," he said. "My name was not Eric, but 'Faggot.'" He claims his mother performed an exorcism on him in an effort to cure her son of his homosexuality before eventually kicking him out of his home.

I'm bisexual and know many other gay lesbian bisexual transexuals etc. It doesn't matter what you are it matters how you act.

What the Hell!? This makes me so mad! He was supposed to be setting an example for all these kids around the world who lost hope because of their sexuality.
"It Gets Better" is suppose to encourage these kids to not give up on their lives, But he has obviously given up on his.
It makes me so upset that people commit suicide because their sexuality makes them feel unwelcome in this world. Why can't people just be accepted the way they are. Who are we to tell them who they should and should not love.

this makes me sad and angery that people would react so cruely to him for who he prefured, his mother i think is the worst, we are no longer in the middle ages....i will do everything in my power to stop such things. especally if its a means to protect my girlfriend, since dating me puts her in danger of this dark side of cruelty

I don't know what everyone's deal is with gay people. It's really stupid to hate someone who is doing only what makes them happy and doesn't affect you at all. I wonder what part of of the human mind make people look so low on gay people.

Ok, rage at me all you want people, but that fact that he made this video tells me one thing: you don't know why he chose to do this. Riddle me this my fellow thinkers, when a straight person commits suicide, what is the cause of this decision? The most common answers are general bullying, neglect, unresolved conflict, or unfulfilled expectations. When a gay person commits suicide, especially one that has been abused like this one has, the reason everyone comes up with is sexual intolerance. Could he have not chosen to end his life for any other reason?

I'm not saying that he didn't do it for the reasons that everyone is thinking of, I'm just trying to bring the idea that people are not just so black-and-white that someone like him could've only killed himself for one reason, and it is unfair to automatically profile them in that way.
