Despite being stabbed in the neck, a Madison man chased down and beat his assailant before driving home and discovering how badly he was injured, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday.
Anthony J. Zeman, 30, of Madison, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and armed robbery for allegedly stabbing Albert Landrum, 23, in the neck and chest during a marijuana deal early Tuesday on Madison's North Side.
Coincidentally, Landrum was a witness to the stabbing that killed Clifton Jones, 23, outside the BP gas station at 318 S. Park St. on March 27. Bernard Brown, 27, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for Jones' death.
Zeman was jailed on $5,000 bail after appearing in Dane County Circuit Court on Friday.
According to a criminal complaint:
Landrum told police that he and Zeman had arranged by phone about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday to meet in a parking lot on Packers Avenue so Landrum could sell Zeman an ounce of marijuana.
Landrum said Zeman got into his truck and he handed Zeman the marijuana. Zeman then said, "I've got something for you," and stabbed Landrum in the neck with a knife. Landrum was also stabbed again as he fought back, he told police.
Zeman ran from the truck and Landrum said he chased him, brought him down and fought with him, intending to take the knife and stab Zeman. Instead, he said, he punched Zeman several times and stomped him, then left him.
Landrum said he then drove home, still not realizing how badly he was hurt. Doctors at Meriter Hospital told police that he had been stabbed twice in the neck, clavicle and left triceps and had to be hospitalized.
