WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP — A 27-year-old Montague Township woman who was 9 months pregnant when she crashed her vehicle on the way to a doctor's appointment Monday morning is in critical condition. The unborn child has died, authorities said.
The woman, identified as Corinne Lynn Coulier-Buchner, of 10857 Oceana, Montague Township, is in critical condition at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. Her unborn child has died as result of the crash, said Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler.
The 6:54 a.m. crash on southbound U.S. 31, just south of the Colby Road overpass, happened when Coulier-Buchner lost control of her full-size pickup truck on icy roads and rolled the vehicle several times, authorities said.
The vehicle left the left side of the highway and ended up between the southbound lanes of the highway and the Colby Road on-ramp, Roesler said.
Roesler said her husband — also en route to the doctor's appointment, but a few minutes behind his wife — passed the accident after he saw a truck off the road.
He called his wife's cell phone several times, and when she didn't answer, he turned around and went to the accident scene and realized it was her, Roesler said.
“It's heartbreaking,” Roesler said. “It's been a tragic morning in Muskegon County.”
Coulier-Buchner's crash occurred shortly after — and four miles away from — a fatal accident that occurred in Montague Township. Coulier-Buchner was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.
This was the sister of my best friend.
