SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (PA)- Black Friday's typical jostling and jockeying took a more ominous turn during this year's bargsin-hunting ritual with a shooting, pepper spraying and other episodes of violence that left many people injured.

In the most serious case, a robber shot a shopper who refused to give up his purchases outside a San Leandro, Calif. Walmart store, leaving the victim hospitalized in critical but stable condition.


Police in San Leandro, about 15 miles east of San Fransisco, said the victim and his family were walking to their car around 1:45 a.m. Friday when they were confronted by a group of men who demande their shopping items. When the family refused, a fight broke out, and one of the robbers pulled a gun and shot the man, said Sgt. Mike Sobek.

"The suspects saw these guys, got out of their car and tried to rob them but were unsuccessful," Sobek said.

At another Walmart in a wealthy suburb of Los Angeles, a woman trying to get to the upper hand to buy cheap electronics unleashed pepper spray on a crowd of shoppers, causing minor injuries to 20 people, police said.

The attack took place about 10:20 p.m. Thursday shortly after doors opened for the sale at the Walmart in Porter Ranch in the San Fernando Valley.

The store brought out a crate of discounted Xbox video game players, and a crowd had formed to wait for the unwrapping, when a woman bagan spraying people "in order to get advantage," police Sgt. Jose Valle said.

Ten people were slightly injured by the pepper spray and 10 others suffered minor bumps and bruises in the chaos, Valle said. They were treated at the scene.

The woman got away in the confusion, but could face felony battery charges if found, Valle said.

I wish I could say I was surprised by this, at least nobody was killed this year. I can't think of anything that I would kill or seriously injure someone to get.

Black Friday is starting to get dangerous people are fighting for stuff they want at the walmart I was at many people where injured even a walmart worker got ran over by shopper trying to get what they want

I remember one year a few Wal-Mart employees got trampled in the rush. Didn't see anything on my local news so I guess this year wasn't so bad.

Oh for the love of god...seriously. Ugh, why is it every time around this year people become vicious animals just to do some "early" christmas shopping. For the love of god people use common sense. *sighs* with that 3 minute rant over and done with i'm going to go and watch more foamy the squirrel

every goes cazy for stuff that they do not need and people end up dying or people getting hurt i heard from someone that they are going to stop black Friday cause what happens to people on that day

I was on the frontlines of one of these sales. Wal-Mart at midnight on a black friday spells one terrifying experience.

yeah last year was crazy i cant stand it someone killed really for cool stuff how i do not what to say thats how shock i am

most people went to go shopping. I finished shopping before everyone got there and simply unfolded a chair to do some "People Watching".Surprisingly some of the workers joined me,but it was hilarious to watch,when they brought in new stuff all the people were being told "BACK! GET BACK!" ,but once the box opened,it was like watching cats fight over catfood.

My mother works at wal-mart and when she called be in the moring, she told me that there was no fights in the electronics but in the towels...? Also, there was a lady who climbs up on a isle and walked on it to the other side just to get to the napkins. People are crazy on black friday.

This is why I don't go to these Black Friday things. The hell and chaos just isn't worth it, and people are always getting hurt. Like the WalMart worker in the eastern US who was killed when he opened the doors for a mob of shoppers. Poor guy was knocked down, and trampled to death. I don't think that saving 70% in a sale isn't worth watching people get hurt.

my friend went and said it was so crowded she almost got smashed in the kids clothing section. and she accidentally knocked over an entire stack of clothes. not cool.

People were stealing already purchased items from other customers in the parking lot, it was insane.

yeah where i live i watched a lady get an xbox 60 and pepper spray every one in line so shed get in line first
i also witnessed a police officer getting a game for his son than sticking his leg into a guy who happend to grab the same and last copy of the game and threaten to shoot it was crazy o.0

it sad how wild people get sometimes like the old lady who bit a storeclerk because he wasnt opening a video game fast enough

This Wal-Mart associate was lucky enough to be in a store that was relatively not dangerous. It was packed as all get-out but everyone acted like humans, and I was happy to help people.

However... I think the fact that we had armed police in the store helped matters.

I think it's silly that people would be so violent just to save a few dollars like that.
