Ever heard of the "Kill Switch"? No, I'm not talking about a database blackout and I'm certainly not referring to a band. The concept of the "Kill Switch" is that of a means to cease mass communication across a globally significant region. Remember how the Joker, Cobra Commander and various other villians would hi-jack television broadcasts and make threats or demands to superheroes and the public masses? Well, the Kill Switch would be a means for them to do so. It blocks the sending and receiving of transmissions and allows for a single message to be relayed to all devices that would be sending or receiving those transmissions.

Now, that I have your attention, rest assured, I'm not saying that we have to worry about Magneto making a public announcement. Unfortunately, something a little more ominous is taking place at 2:00 PM EST on November 9, 2011. At that time, the EAS will be activated for, as stated, three minutes, to, as stated, test its performance.

"Only the President has the authority to activate EAS at the national level, and he has delegated that authority to the Director of FEMA. The test will be conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS)."

When the EAS is activated, so begins the first test of the "Kill Switch". All radio and television; local, satellite or otherwise; will be interupted.

Curious as to how all the cable companies were approached with this

3 Name: Lt. Dodger : 2011-10-25 16:07 ID:5d4s/hWr [Del]

Sounds so much like Skynet. Guess the Man vs Machine theory is true after all.

I'm sure they were approached by the symbol of evil; a suit holding weilding paper.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2011-10-26 08:11 ID:sAUbkVky [Del]

>>6 For the zombie apocolypse you are talking about that book that came out recent right? Because a book came out by the gov. on surviving a Zombie Apocolypse and other weather disaster.

8 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2011-10-26 18:29 ID:fW4dBbuX [Del]

>>7 It was a publication created by the Center for Disease Control, since chemical warfare has evolved to the point that it could be possible to create a "zombie" outbreak.

9 Name: Anonymous : 2011-10-27 11:51 ID:SyBe+Z4V [Del]

>>8 Yeah that is what it was, though the reason it was for a "zombie outbreak" though was to attract people into buying/reading it.

10 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-02 16:25 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

bump for one week from today

12 Name: ZERO : 2011-11-03 20:51 ID:68wZ2AYk [Del]

this will happen around the globe??

13 Name: hollowspecter !GOqGPSCnqs : 2011-11-03 21:06 ID:hJT061HM [Del]

No i guess just in the whole U.S..
Thats just bizarr.
I wonder what it really is, what the real use behind this so-called "emergency alert system" is... any conspiracys :D?

14 Name: Kaori !!1M/QA3Sq : 2011-11-03 22:53 ID:KC8aF38J [Del]

lulz, if it happened global, everyone would be seeing and hearing Obama or something... then it'd be a literal Black out.

Pun intende----

>>13 It's not bizarre at all. The EAS has been around for decades, just in bits and pieces across cities and counties. This is going to be an attempt to link all of them together to give a single, real time systems broadcast to all systems in the nations.

TL;DR: Take off your tinfoil hat.

16 Name: Tommy : 2011-11-04 02:41 ID:B/3kel+K [Del]

AWWW it would be during school >> FML jk jk, anyway, curious to see what it could be about

17 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-04 11:17 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

>>15
No need for tinfoil hats, yo. They already put mind controlling chips in the foil sheets :3c

It seems unnecessary to me. Our communication networks, news wires and use of the internet sufficiently transfers knowledge of emergencies across the country already. My stance is, "if it is not broken, then what are they trying to fix?" It seems like step backwards.

18 Name: Lt. Dodger : 2011-11-04 15:02 ID:fseSeQf4 [Del]

>>17 I'm just guessing here, but it's probably a measure taken to avoid forced interference in communications in the event of an enemy invasion.

19 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-04 15:09 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

>>18
I suppose that is a reasonable explanation, but that means their way of avoiding forced interference in communications is to.. force interference? >_>

20 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-08 15:31 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

bump for tomorrow

21 Name: Ayanavi : 2011-11-08 16:06 ID:HYzpTbQj [Del]

I guess it would be difficult to force an interference if there is a greater force already interfering...

However, I am clueless as to how the logistics of this work - So its only conjecture.

SWEET! i get to see this on my birthday! so cool!

creepy as well. So what if a pres. goes nutso and decides "hey im gonna murder a baby on TV for EVERYONE to see!"?

23 Name: ms.mell : 2011-11-08 20:54 ID:mXc52cce [Del]

24 Name: The Doctor : 2011-11-09 16:02 ID:+YzE9pUK [Del]

25 Name: Feral : 2011-11-09 18:06 ID:OBh2CGGF [Del]

>>24 I think I'm in the same boat as you Doc. Listening to the radio all day at work but nothing happened.

The funny part is that the station was talking about it all day.

26 Name: Ribon !/u7dT3gKM2 : 2011-11-10 02:53 ID:IEH/fuIS [Del]

I got an e-mail from my college about this, but I already knew about it from here. LOL

I didn't notice anything strange at that time, though. Granted, I wasn't really using anything that would have been affected... Still, I wonder if it really happened...? Hmm... So many questions...

27 Name: kabuto464 !0UZD1OR/j. : 2011-11-10 07:55 ID:HBcL2xa/ [Del]

My tv stopped working that day T-T

28 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-10 11:51 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

The FCC declared the test as a failure. lol.

29 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2011-11-11 01:52 ID:aJO+t5// [Del]

Hence why it needs to be fixed.

30 Name: divineraccoon !lOJ5tap5Nk : 2011-11-11 12:49 ID:tzXWzXw9 [Del]

>>29
I stand corrected in many of my previous thoughts on this, lmao!
I still question how necessary the kill-switch is.

31 Name: sleepology : 2011-11-12 10:30 ID:KWQK295u [Del]

Remember all the news blackouts that went down a while back in hat other country? Thats why. So if something like that goes down here we can just press a button n turn off interweb.

32 Name: Ninja_Zero : 2011-11-12 21:31 ID:YpIWZ0Ft [Del]

well in 2038 or 1 billion seconds all 32 bit PC and electonics (eg traffic lights, cameras) will stuff up and not work again thats kinda like a kill switch but without the switch part

so better swtich to 64 b4 its too late

33 Name: ms.mell : 2011-11-13 21:18 ID:mXc52cce [Del]

>>7 sorry this is so late but no im not i heard it on the news in my area the news people wer laughing bout it and every one at school was talking about it as well

34 Name: Ribon !/u7dT3gKM2 : 2011-11-14 01:17 ID:IEH/fuIS [Del]
