Boy banned from bringing sax on bus (12)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2011-10-21 19:49 ID:Y3IAH+cn [Del]

A Massachusetts woman said she was outraged when her 12-year-old son was told he can't bring his saxophone with him on the school bus.

Cathy DiMarzio of Raynham said her son, Andrew, was told he can't bring his instrument on the bus because it poses a safety hazard on the crowded vehicle, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported Wednesday.

"He was so discouraged. He wanted to give it up and that's a crime," she said.

DiMarzio said her work schedule does not allow her to drive her son to and from school with his instrument.

"They are making it difficult because I work. I work full time. Do I have to quit my job or does he have to quit band?" she said.

The mother said Lucini Bus Lines has offered to refund the $225 she paid for Andrew to ride the bus, but that does not solve her problem.

"I am not against the arts or anything like that, but safety comes first," said Bill Lucini, the owner of Lucini Bus Lines. If there is an empty seat next to him, no problem. If there is room on the bus, we allow it. But usually the bus that Andrew rides is filled to capacity.

Weird, i've never heard of a bus driver telling a student they can't bring an instrument on the bus with them...

That's probably the most ridiculous band related news topic I've heard of. It's not like the kid is going to take his sax out anyways while on the bus. Goodness...

Tell me about it...I read a topic a long while back about other stuff like this...they expelled a student in ROTC for bringing a swiss army knife. Another student was expelled for bringing his medical supplys to school even though they were needed for his class in nursing.WTF? Are they suppose to sew a persons arm up WITHOUT a medical tool?

This is ridiculous. My bookbag is more dangerous than a boy's saxophone, but no matter how much I wish they would, they'll never tell me I can't bring my bookbag to school on the bus.

Something tells me most of you didn't bother to read the whole thing. The bus driver even says it's allowed, as long as there's room on the bus. If there isn't, then what are you gonna do? Have someone sit on the floor?

This is why they need to put racks in the buses. Nuff Said. Maybe then people would quit their bitching.

This so so retarded... The kid could just put it on his lap, or better yet, under the seat. Usually there's room under there. As someone who participated in band while back in high school, I can't accept this, I just can't. If backpacks, messenger bags, or whatever else someone might carry to school on a bus is allowed... Why the hell not a musical instrument? A saxophone case is not really all that big, either. Granted, it's bigger than some instrument cases, but it's not a big deal at all. My friend's saxophone case is about the same size as my messenger bag. Seriously, this whole thing is just a big WTF for me.

>>8 It'd be less WTF if you bothered to read the whole article.

>>8 um, it might me a problem if its a baritone rather than an alto, the one that you're probably thinking of. a baritone and tenor sax are way to large to sit on your lap

the same thing happened at my school if i remember correctly, students weren't allowed to bring guitars on the bus. and there is a guitar class. at the school.

>>9 I did read the whole article.

>>10 I suppose you may have a point, but I still don't think it's right. Put it under the seat if you must, there's gotta be a way. I've lugged bigger things on a schoolbus. Trust me.
