JAPAN PLEASE (12)

According to ABC News, the Japanese Tourism Agency (or the JTA) has requested over one billion yen for funding to give out 10,000 free round-trip tickets to Japan. Yep. You heard it–free tickets to Japan. Round-trip. Of course, you’d have to pay for your own housing and meals, but hey, a free ticket is a free ticket.

The catch? Blog about it. That’s right. The Japanese Tourism Agency makes money off of tourism (obviously), and after the tsunami in March, tourism has decreased significantly. According to article, “In the first three months following the triple disasters, the number of foreign visitors to Japan was cut in half, compared with the same time in 2010.”

The JTA believes that this would this will “spread the word that Japan is a safe place to visit,” or so says Kazuyoshi Sato, who works for the agency.

All you would have to do (or that you’re required to do) is write a review about your travel experiences, and post it online.

Sounds easy, but since what they’re looking for is accomplished, highly influential bloggers, I doubt the normal people such as ourselves will ever get a chance to do it.

Either way, Japan please. (Grab hands.)

Where do you write this review? I want on of those tickets, going back to the states from here in Japan is expensive!

Presumably, you'd have to already have a popular site where people would read your reviews. They're going for publicity - if you aren't that influential, you're not likely to get picked.

...Although, you could post a review here. I don't know the criteria on how they pick people, but if it's just based on how reliable you are at posting a review on a popular site, you could definitely use us.

I heard about this! I would love to go~ I never considered the idea that they would only pick influential people since it is to promote tourism... I just assumed they would require you to write a review and send it to them to put up on their site or something.

I've heard of something similar to this, where they're paying for people's tickets. The difference is that, in what I heard, they wanted native English speakers to come to Japan to teach English. The English speaker would pretty much be a teacher's aide whose purpose would simply be to speak, so that the students could hear what it sounds like. Also, since you're just the aide, you don't have to speak Japanese, although it would probably help.
