I'm not sure what to say about this other than, what would the U.S. be like without the mail? I agree with the solutions that other countries have used, privatizing post offices and putting them in other buildings. This would open up jobs for one thing and two keeps the mail service going. Too many things still go through traditional mail for the service just to end. If we swap to a system that would allow places to have a post office running out of it, I have one down the street in a pharmacy that takes packages and mail, then there would only need to be a district office that the USPS mail carriers run out of and that would cut costs. This sucks though, not everything can happen online because there are some places and things that the internet doesn't reach or can't deal with. Maybe the USPS should partner up with UPS, FedEx and things like that more....any other thoughts?

Eh, USPS Probably should be phased out, but that that happens, only a third to a half of the workers will make it over to private institutions. That leads thousands of others jobless.

Another thing, there really isn't a need for Saturday mail when most institutions are closed on Saturdays anyway.

It's a tragedy really because our postal service has been going on for a very long time. I don't agree with closing down local post offices honestly because not everyone has the internet. It is especially hard to get internet in rural areas. Not to mention you have a older generation who grew up without the internet and it's hard for them to learn it now. However, our generation and our parents generation has gotten so used to emails, ordering things online, and other services. Plus the amount you have to pay for shipping, postage stamps, and such has gone up. If I could I would write letters to people, but the reality is I don't have anyone's address except families and I hear from them on the phone everyday. I think what they need to do is get up to date with modern technology and demands. Maybe then they can get back costumers.

I actually have found my post service becoming more reliable in recent years, not less. The postal service may need investment in it to catch up with the times, but it's still a service the country needs.

I just heard of this. How are we supposed to get the mail though? Because I do not want to drive somewhere to pick it up. And the stopping on Saturday thing? That's the only time I have to send out letters.

That would be rough for the economy if it asked for people to drive out somewhere just to pick up the mail, it would increase gas prices and accidents would increase if everyone had to pick it up at a certain time. Also it would be too risky for it to be emailed to you because spam mail could steal your information on your bills and increase them or something like that.
