nationwide thieves stealing..car parts...? (3)

hey you guys heard of those raids on cars all over the nation going on?
apparently there has been people stealing catalytic converters for the metals inside.
they use some kind of saw and just cut them off, then sell the metals to buyers.
the street i used to live on got hit by some thieves...

This has actually been going on since the 90s. When people realized that catalytic converters used platinum, palladium and rhodium, they also realized that the rarity of these metals could be used to fetch a quick buck. It's also one of the most expensive parts on a vehicle to replace.

In fact, the only way to end such a spree is to find new catalysts that aren't derived from rare metals. Synthetic catalysts would not only drop down the price considerably; it would make these thefts a fool's errand.

I think it would be awesome to find a new way to make then from less precious metals and make those people look like idiots
