I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this. Part of me says if he wants to be stupid and do this to himself. I find it convenient that they are doing this to make him fit to stand trial and he's essentially refusing to be fit and making himself sick so he can't go on trial. What do you do with someone like that?

Every criminal deserves to live, and a chance at redemption. Some of the worst criminals have become artists and there work is very inspiring.
Plus if you actually look at it it would actually be more expensive to execute all of them rather than let them serve their time.

My only thing is if the guy is CHOOSING to do these things to himself why should we be wasting the money to pay to fix him. Really? Let him die.

>>4Not tryin' to be a dick here but...Would you say that if it was your little girl/cousin/mother/father/brother/sister/whatever that got shot and killed?

>>6 Not trying to be a smart ass, but yes.

>>7 If they wanted to die that way yes he should be let go. I wouldn't burden anyone else with their treatment and FORCE someone to take responsibility for a choice they made. Besides it's not like there is a doubt that this guy killed a bunch of people. We know he did it, he was in a lucid state at the time and when they tried to put him on trial he pulled this shit. This is only so they can't put him on trial and make him take responsibility for what he did. If he is unfit for trial they can't even start it and so the longer this goes on the more money he is costing an already hurting economy when he's acting like a child who won't admit they stole a candy bar. Sorry but why should we have to pay for that? Let the bastard die if he wants to be like that all it does is save money on the trial, save money for the long term prison sentence we would have been paying for, if not prison the medical bills for being put in a psychiatric facility, and all for what, some guy who'd rather let himself die so he doesn't have to be held accountable? Why bother?

>>8 Wait, there FORCING him to have his treatment!? If I understand this correctly then get this dude a lawyer, every patient has a RIGHT to refuse treatment; it's absolutely against the law to force anyone to get better while under a hospitals care. The fucking doctor should know this shit.

>>9 They are obligated to. As soon as he faints or loses consciousness from it they HAVE to help him. If they don't it's cruel and unusual punishment and they get sued. Double edged sword.

>>10 Not if her wrights instructions on any piece of paper saying "I do not wish for the hospital to bring me back to contentiousness" or something along the lines of that, then they can't legally treat him (yes im a little knowledgeable about health care laws and HIPA). Someone one tell this guy that, it pisses me off to see a patients rights being slandered like this!

>>11 He has a lawyer, that's why he's refusing. I say let him die then. Saves us money in the long run.

If he has a lawyer then IDK what the problem is, the hospital should allow him do die peacefully then. Some information must be missing from this, but I just hope it will work out in everyone's best interest in the end.
