Marriage on Sesame Street!? (27)

1 Name: LOVELESS : 2011-08-12 09:09 ID:+RZUNREA [Del]

So i found out that recently there has been a number of letters addressed to the producers of Sesame Street requesting them to marry off Bernie and Ernie. They state that the couple are "obviously" homosexual due to the fact that they have been living together for the past 40 years and they do questionable activities (they bathe together). so far, Sesame Street has stated that because they are just puppets and have no sexual orientation, they refuse to have them married. but i want to know what you think. How do you feel about this movement?

All i can say is LAWL. But i think that their ratings would plummet because of the straight edged society of america. Even though there is some tolerance it not enough for the show to go mainstream

And Elmo has been 4 years old for how long now? Bernie and Ernie don't need to get married, people are just stupid. Honestly, those people are either trolls or stupid people that think the world revolves around them. Or in this case, their gayness.

Is this for serious? I'm not against it because they would be a same sex couple, I'm against it because I don't think marriage is a vital topic to small children.

>>4 agreed. I watched it when I was younger and never had a second thought about them bathing together, BECAUSE I WAS FUCKING 8!!!! Those people are true idiots

Dude we should just leave it we need to just leave children alone thier heads don't need to be filled with marriage and homosexuality at such a young age since sesame street watchers are like from 3-8 or something...

When I saw this at first on the Daily Show, all I could do was laugh. I laughed until my sides hurt.

It's a children's television show, and now they're throwing homosexuality into it? Amazing to me.

Children won't really understand it in the first place. And they certainly care if you try to tell them. I'm just curious about who first sent these letters.

The world has become a laughing stock these days. But seriously bring homosexuality into a children's TV show is going over the borderline of weird and pointless at the same time.

lol i think it would be a good learning thing for the kids.

14 Name: マシンガン : 2011-08-13 22:27 ID:YZuD/aHm [Del]

>>13 Kids don't need to learn about any sort of marriage, gay or not. They should learn how to tie their shoes and read before any of that jazz.

Man, kids are practically the purest things on earth, they don't need to be exposed this shit.

17 Name: Cadeyrn : 2011-08-16 01:38 ID:wnOU/csr [Del]

I think the idea of marrying Bert and Ernie is really stupid. They're obviously hetero life partners, best friends, and what not and I'm pretty sure kids see them in that way.

i bet the people who proposed the idea just did it for kicks.

Your information is wrong.

Even if they end up being homosexual, children cant even tell. They probably think they are really good friends, remember in That 70's Show when and Eric & Hyde took a bath together? What's the big deal?

23 Name: Anonymous : 2011-08-22 05:04 ID:geN27wvh [Del]

Lol, kids won't care nor will they notice haha

24 Name: Ghost : 2011-08-22 14:04 ID:/yT7qpy6 [Del]

If you've ever heard of "Avenue Q" (a satirical broadway musical that uses puppets similar to Sesame Street) two of their characters are actually stated to be gay. On the day that New York legalized gay marriage, the cast "wed" the two puppets before the show that evening :) Pretty cool (and humorous) way to support the new movement.

They're puppets. Obviously they don't a have a sexual preference. Therefore, they can't get married.

Puppets should have the right to choose. Plus it's sooooo obvious that Bert and Ernie are gay, I've known since I was 5 or 6. Why not marry them? I think it would send a positive message to kids everywhere.

^Exactly. That and, in all the years Sesame Street has been on air, Im confident theyve at least once depicted a presumably "married couple". That being said, the argument "they're just puppets" is 1) No longer valid and 2) is counterable in that, in the case of a hypothetically displayed married couple, it is unlikely that they engaged in even the most minutae acts of sexuality- meaning the marraiges represent a sort of common-wealth or perhaps, to go further, "marraige based on love alone" -type scenario.

Plus its a cool way to become even more integrated in the New York based childrens show.
