Researchers at Showa University have modified a love doll to create a realistic robot patient that will help train dentists
In a partnership between Japanese dentists, robot manufacturer Tmsuk and featuring realistic skin and mouth lining from love doll makers Orient Industry, a new robot called Showa Hanako 2 will soon be making her way into the chairs of dental students all over Japan.
the new robot is being built with a number of realistic features including the ability to roll her eyes, sneeze and choke all of which are meant to recreate the realistic, intense feeling a dentist is supposed to feel while working in the mouth of a real patient.
The extra additions also extend to the inner workings of the mouth as both the tongue and arms have two degrees of movement creating even more realism.
Welcome to the future of dentistry where you could be facing a doctor who has never actually worked on a real person. And here you thought it was scary to get drugged and drilled before!
