3 Name: Paradoxchan !Yfb2ffAec2 : 2011-07-04 18:49 ID:acGKIQTL [Del]

that's stupid just like the kid that tried copying gaara and died. maybe the principal actually watched the deathnote series or read its manga, and thought that the kid might start writing names on the notebook to kill those people written there... seriously.

It's more likely that they just have a normal thought process, rather than having seen the manga/anime.

I mean, he wrote other students in a "Death Note." Anyone who sees it is going to think he's one step away from shooting up the school.

Also this video is from nearly 3 years ago.

That's dumb.

>>5 I heard about this 3 years ago too. Usually, "news" implies it is new.

To be fair, it could definitely be interpreted as a form of threat - both if you know the anime and if you don't.

Its ridiculous, it maybe considered a threat. But its more like wishing ill will upon someone.

oh yeah..heard about that. it was just freaking stupid.

Once I brought a DN to school and this is what happened
Me: *in science class at beginning of school year*
Teacher: What's this? Death Note? What, are you tring to turn goth on me or something? (in a joking tone)
Me: oh... nah, I just didn't have any other notebook to bring
Teacher: oh, ok... *walks off*

To be fair, it does seem sketchy. On the other hand, they should take time to research these things, and realize there was no harm done and it's just from an anime. Kids go through faces in which they feel like people should "die".

Let's jump to conclusions.

All the conclusions.

I agree with L.
And if you are going to actually write somebody's name in it then that really isn't something that should be carried around in public for situations just like this.

Since it's just a notebook, with the outside covering of a DeathNote isn't it still just a notebook?

16 Name: L : 2011-07-10 17:46 ID:h+B74aUu [Del]

Jengi, it had "How to use the Death note" in it. With the "Who's name is written in this note book shall die" o.o

ahaha... no matter how much realistic the notebook looks like and whatever's written there, it's not as if its real or if it would actually happen. It doesnt bring harm (death) to anyone's name written on a piece of notebook, so they shouldnt make so much of a fuss about it.
But if you're gonna write someone you know in that notebook, make sure that doesnt get seen. It would probably cause a ruckus of somesort.
Pity. It if were real, I could have written my Science's teacher's name on it... ^^

>>15 Yes it is still just a notebook. I have one and I brought it to school all the time and took notes in it lol. But that's not the issue here. The issue is that they actually wrote peoples names in it. Even if it was just a joke, it is going to be taken quite seriously.

If you think about it could have the potential for being called threats haha

It makes sense if he was "using" it. It is pretty much the same thing as a hitlist. If treated as such the kid should be suspended. I would just keep it at home.

people should know that nothing will happen, it is too much punishment for the kid, it is just a work of fiction. what i wouldve done if i was the disciplinarian would be to read the names of the people, bring them in and have them confront the kid who wrote the names on the deathnote.

24 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2011-07-16 18:47 ID:StXxDcnD [Del]

Why would you have them confront the kid? That's an invasion of privacy and an unusual punishment. The last thing you want to do is give a kid undue counseling when neither they nor their parents ask for it.

But I digress.

I guess it does seem silly, but nowadays people don't take chances. Sure, to people familiar with what it really is, it's just a silly copy of an anime. But what if he was serious? What if he was a mentally unstable kid who was easily influenced by something as trivial as a TV show, hoping to mimic what he saw? It isn't unheard of.

I'm sure in reality he never meant to do anything, but the act in itself can be construed as a written threat that he wished for some people to die.
On the police's side, I'm sure they weighed the consequences and figured it'd be worse to wrongly sanction him than to wrongly incarcerate him. In the former situation, he might end up going through with it, while in the latter it would just be an embarrassment on their part.

>>24 "worse to wrongly sanction him than to wrongly incarcerate him."

>Innocent until Proven guilty.

We have less of a legal system than we do comfortable padded walls for people to live out blissfully anal retentive lives. To the point where things like this - And even an 8 year old who had brought in his 'scout's honor' swiss army knife - will get instantly cracked down on as people who had malicious intent in mind.

There is no excuse. None what so ever - Not when it is now sanctioned to ignorantly deprive, expel, arrest or shut down an activity because of some idiot not doing even a modicrum of research into the topic before sounding an alarm regarding it.

Safety first? Best intentions? At some point, people need to stop expecting and demanding that their ruling system take care of and baby their society. Live their own lives, raise their own kids, and get authority decentralized enough that in cases like these, a resident officer could do their own research into an event and make their own call - rather than be forced by protocal and international law to do something.

No. Excuse.
