All the staff here at ani.me would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of voice actress Tomoko Kawakami. Miss Kawakami passed away on the 9th in Japan, reportedly due to ovarian cancer. She was 41 years old.

Kawakami began her VA career in 1994 and may best be remembered by Western fans in her role as Utena Tenjou from Revolutionary Girl Utena, which is now in the process of being re-issued in the US by Right Stuf.

She appeared in a variety of series, including GUNGRAVE, OUTLAW STAR, FUSHIGI YUGI, AIR, KANON, ARIA, and BLEACH.

I never really got into the Voice Actor fad, but it is a genuine loss to me that this woman died. It's like some of the voices from my past died with her.

I can't say I was familiar with many of her voice roles, but it's nonetheless sad to hear someone in the industry pass away, knowing so many people listened to her.
