I don't know whether it would be better to separate those from the 'general public' from those with 'public voices' since those with voices tend to dictate what the public in the future hears.
And just because something's negative or unpleasant doesn't mean it wont be discussed by the general public. People will talk about things that interest them, and the media gives them interesting things, if they can't, they try to make things interesting by making them sound interesting.
The media doesn't have perfect morals, though perhaps I'm over exaggerating things.
